Another crazy high bill

I thought my electric bill of $333 was very high. My mom’s bill is even higher—$393. She’s never had a bill like that. But my sister-in-law was staying at her house with the kids for a lot at least a week so that’s probably why. My mom said my sister-in-law was doing laundry almost every day it seems and many loads. And she lowered the AC to I think 70F. Not sure if it was during the day or at night. My mom usually keeps the thermostat set at 74F. Usage was probably way higher because of all that. Still, I wonder if the rates have gone way up. Will have to look. The bill is way too high.

That is high, but not with the lower temp and doing all that laundry. I know the rates here went up but not sure how much.

@lovebuglena Lena. You are not poor. It's not like you are going to starve or stop paying $8 for a glass of lemonade, is it

@Ineeddentures I don’t have a lot of money. Whatever I have left will be gone quickly.

The air-conditioners really cost a lot of electricity. The washing machine won't consume much electricity unless you use it to dry the clothes after washing.

I should think having the extra people staying would make quite a difference.

Yeah, I'd say this might be worth figuring out. Something doesn't seem right here.

The usage has definitely gone up by a lot according to the reading. And it says actual not estimate. Gotta check if the rates have gone up as well.

@lovebuglena Could be a combination of things. But yes, understanding all the contributing factors is key to understanding how to mitigate some of that.

Yep, that sounds like the extra work load on the power system there with extras and more activity in the house.

Is the house all electric? That could make a difference...but more so in the winter.

Nope. Stove and dryer are gas in both houses.

@lovebuglena Maybe you should have them come out and check the meter.
