Or just out to have some fun...
Would you think to make a boat out of cardboard, especially if you weren't allowed to use any waterproofing? And two people in the craft... I wonder how long these 'boats' would last before they sunk.

Sure, I’d do it in my uncle’s pool. Not in a major (or even minor) body of water, though.

Well, I'm sure they thought of it, but it's in a marina, so doubt there'd be much marine life immediately affected.

That might be the whole point of the exercise.

@paigea And probably fun for the spectators... I might mention it to Juanita, she likes going to Port Colborne.

They will disintegrate quite rapidly. I would pass on this one.

I hope not, I hope the entrants would be able to get a couple lengths away from the starting point before that happens.

I made a cardboard boat once, for a pre school class. It was not intended for water and mostly was held together with duct tape. I think it would depend on the thickness of the cardboard as to how long it would stay afloat.

@BarBaraPrz yes! we also use styrofoam and then they put machine in it, with two people can ride it. And it is a race actually.

Minus the cardboard?
Then you're sure to sink...

@BarBaraPrz Even with the cardboard I would imagine that they sink.
I wouldn't do it in a marina though, only in clean and clear water.

I’d guess most of those cardboard boats wouldn’t last more than a few minutes before taking on water.
