Hey, I like a song title that answers the question without too much explanation!
I’m heading east (playing the band Head East’s big hit, “There’s Never Been Any Reason”…do that every time I “head east”
) with only about 1,600 miles or so
to go.
Here’s today’s song along the musical highway that I’m on.
The Red Hills of Utah - Marty Robbins
Oh, Linda? NO!
Marty Robbins was one marvelous singer. He was also one marvelous songwriter. And man, did he hit the nail on the head with this one! (Except those are mountains, not hills.
)
This state, at least the part that I’m in (I’m not going north toward Salt Lake City), is stunning with those beautiful mesas, mountains, and canyons…and yes, many are red.
Glad to have scratched this state off the list, and glad to share this lovely ballad about a lovely place.
The Red Hills of Utah
Written by Marty Robbins
Recorded by Marty Robbins
From Return of the Gunfighter, 1963
If it’s just like my dreams then I must go and see:

Down to 1000 now, almost through Colorado. I’m watching the sun set from my hotel window while I catch up.

Oh, yes indeed. Parts of Utah are beautiful. I remember traveling through the rock formations just at dusk one night. They were beautiful.

I remember Marty Robbins for his song about "Rosa's Cantina."

How far can you drive in a day. 1,600 miles is a lot!

About 350-400 miles. I’m not in a major hurry, have to be home Thursday night. I’m down to 1,000. Apparently the 1,600 clocking was from Nevada and I hadn’t updated.

One of those endless album cuts that I’ve found along the ways.
