My Marigolds Moved

Sometimes you just don't expect certain things, and of course, they take you by surprise a little bit. Like when you're dead heading your marigold plants and something moves that shouldn't. I pulled back a bit, not knowing what it was, and examined things a little closer and found there was a grasshopper clinging to one of the branches where one of the flowers was I wanted to pluck off. Of course, I did not harm the little guy. Just went inside to grab my phone and snap a pic of him. I tried a couple times to get a clear shot, but they all came out blurry. Has anything taken you by surprise recently?

@porwest The mini bike that is stationary is slowly making being able to walk steady without a serous limp due to a bruise on my left knee from a fall about a month ago.

My yard often surprises me. I have all kinds of dragon flies this year. They are lovely.

Yes, I came inside yesterday and felt something on my shoulder. Looked over to see a bug. Started heading back outside and for the hubby to come and get the thing off of me. The bug started crawling down my arm, at which time I noticed it was just a large grasshopper. We both laughed!

It is funny that certain bugs really freak us out and others are like little friends paying us a quick visit. lol

@kareng I dealt with a lot of those in my pest control days. Amazing how some people live with them everywhere coming out of every orifice, nook and cranny. Disgusting.

I also would have not harmed the little guy. I remember when I was getting close to the water hose in the garden to grab it and it moved! It was a snake

@porwest I have a serious phobia of snakes. I did not dare to go in the garden for a couple of days.

I'm not too keen on seeing moving things in the garden. It might be a snake.

@porwest you are so right, & the best way I have found to live in this world like it is today is to not involve yourself with others to engage in your life & act like they are no where around.

That looks like a pretty good sized grasshopper. The best natural pesticides you can get. I was out with the dog early this morning. I hadn't even had coffee yet. I was hoping he'd hurry up so I could get back in and go back to bed. All of the sudden he bolted and almost pulled the lead from my hand. There were three deer that had apparently slept in my back yard. A doe and two fawns. I've seen them all year here and the fawns sure are getting big. They have already cleared the lower branches of my apple and pear trees. I expect them to be around. I just didn't expect them to be around early this morning. I was startled by all the commotion around me.

Wow, either that's a very big grasshopper, or you're really zoomed in close! Once, when I was a kid, I went into my room one afternoon, and there was a hat laying on my bed that I had tossed there earlier. As I went to pick it up, it started moving! I was absolutely terrified and thought there was a ghost in my room! After I recovered from my heart attack, I picked up the hat to see one of those giant curly-tailed lizards underneath! How it got into my room I have no idea, but I was more thankful that my room wasn't haunted!

Yes. I think a praying mantis was on the window in the living room a few days ago. My cat tried to get it. I kept telling her that it was outside and we are inside.

At least he waited til you had got your phone ….shame the pics were blurry. Last Sunday I was walking up Moms garden , which is quite long. Suddenly a frog jumped out right across my path. I hate frogs I shouted and jumped about a bit …..I know….i know …over reaction…. I carried on to the top of the garden , but on my way back down, I had to call for The Mister to come and walk inbetween me and the rockery, where the frog had jumped….

Nothing surprising here. Will they eat your vegetation?

I don't think they will eat the marigolds. They are known (the plants) to have a pungent smell that insects don't like, and many people plant them in their gardens to help with some pest control. Which made it a bit more surprising it was there.

Sometimes a gecko appear from nowhere and we'll only surprise when it's inside the restroom. We notice it because of its toko-toko annoying sound for it lasts 7 seconds.
