I have everything done here at least. Often on auction day I don't. I will post this and then get dressed. I have 5 little peepers. I didn't think the last one was going to make it as I had to help it out of its shell. But as yesterday continued it kept getting stronger. It is now running all over with the other 4. I had 2 separated so I knew which one was for my friend and one to keep it company that I could tell apart. They found a way through the divider last night. Grrrr Hope you have a good day.

How soon after hatching can they get up and run around on their tiny little legs?

Usually almost right away some and going good in a couple of hours. That little one laid on its side most of the day. It finally started sitting upright and then walking in the evening.

@moffittjc Chickens don't really need to eat for about the first day as they finish absorbing the yolk. But I have never had to teach them to eat or drink. They can eat about anything big chickens do. They just have to peck to break it up more. Tame turkeys do sometimes need to have their beaks shoved into food and water to figure it out

@wolfgirl569 Wow, I didn't think it would be that quick, but it makes sense for survival reasons. What do they eat at such a young age, or right after birth? Do they already know how to peck at the ground?

@wolfgirl569 - Animals are too smart, they arrive to escape from places that we thought were absolutely safe.

Yes they are. I could not see a spot to squeeze through. I gave hers company. Now I can't tell which one it is. I do know which 2 it isn't

@wolfgirl569 I suspect they just kept trying until they managed to get through. What did you do? Paint two of them so you could tell them apart?

I think you need to know which one to give your friend as it should lay blue eggs. Is that right?

@JudyEv I will only eat the roosters. Then if one lays the right color egg I can always save her some that she can hatch.

@wolfgirl569 I suppose that's a start and if you don't eat them, hopefully one of you will get blue eggs and if it's you, you can swap with her.
