I found an article on cat myths today and I wanted to share the ones I found most interesting. Here are a few:
* Catnip-- Not all cats are susceptible to the charms of catnip. About 50-75% of cats are catnip lovers. It is an inherited trait and not all are lovers.
* Water-- Cats hate baths but not necessarily the water itself. Many are fascinated by it and love to romp and play in it.
* Milk-- As a treat for cats it is not a good choice. Cats can be lactose intolerant just like humans.
* Indoor/Outdoor -- Cats who have access to the outdoors and those who live indoors both have about the same life span. It is if a cat is homeless and trying to scavenge for food that they may not live as long.
* Landing on their feet -- Cats have a internal balancing system, and very flexible back bones. They also have a vestibular apparatus in their ears that enables them to know up from down. But, these are not fool proof. Sometimes cats don't have enough time to react which could result in a clumsy fall and this could cause them to get hurt.

Some breeds of cats like to play in the water and swim, like Turkish Van cats.

@GardenGerty My Peter cat has some Snowshoe Siamese in him. He is fascinated by water though he won't step in it.

Cats do still die from falls despite of their great internal balancing systems. We have sickos in Singapore who threw stray cats down the building just because they were stressed. My thought is that they should have throw themselves out of the windows instead of the cats if they were stress.
Many of the big cats were excellence swimmers. There are some medium size cats which will dive into the water to catch fishes to eat.

Yes, some fall too far and get hurt. Yes, spare the cats and rid the world of some sickos. I agree with that. Cats are resourceful that is for sure.

Interesting that all cats don't love catnip!

Those are really interesting! I knew about the catnip and milk ones, but I didn’t realize indoor and outdoor cats have similar lifespans.. that surprised me

Me too a bit. I can understand that the homeless ones wouldn't fare very well.

Quite a number of interesting facts ! I never knew about the Milk factor.
Feeding cats with Milk - whether domesticated or those that roam about is a common practice.
I think people need better awareness about this factor.

The last cat I had in Latvia enjoyed a monthly bath because he was indoor/outdoor. I cannot imagine never having a cat again but my friends down below treat me like a cat murderer since my two cats die in March and I don't think they will help me get another one,
