Pregnancy Robot?

What next? China has made a bold step in reproductive technology by developing a pregnancy robot ( should be available in a year). The robot will be equipped with a womb and is expected "to replicate the entire gestation process from conception to delivery" The idea is to support families facing infertility...who knows what can go wrong. What are your thoughts? You can read about it in the link below. China develops pregnancy robot to aid infertile families https://share.google/LWsmmUBnPTZ1i3Btl

It's the same start-up as in vitro fertilization but instead of implanting the fetus into a living person, it continues in the "test tube". The fetus can be seen the entire time and can be easily aborted if anything goes wrong. (Unless laws continue to claim that a bunch of cells that can't survive on their own is a "baby".)

They say it will be fed through a hose which is like the umbilical cord and the robot will communicate with the fetus....

@Kandae11 Yeah, they have machines that will "nurture" the fetus. Changing the shape of the machine is no problem at all. And adding a robotic voice to the machine doesn't change anything, either.

@DaddyEvil l guess they have it all carefully planned out. I am just wondering what part the parents will play.

It is an odd machine for a robot to get pregnant.

Well, the robot is just the machine with a womb - they will do the rest.

"Ethical and legal discussions are already underway with officials in Guangdong Province, exploring policy frameworks to guide this unprecedented technology." - from same article When it comes to robotics China says it does a lot of things that it doesn't really do. I suspect this might be one of those. I feel this is a large enough discussion to include the entire world community in medicine and social development not just Guangdong Province?

@Kandae11 But what could anyone do to stop a country from doing what ever they wish? Oh I know higher tar-ifs.

It’s like an advanced version of test tube babies, except the robot womb replaces the need for a mother’s womb so the baby can develop full term outside the body.

Yes that' s how it is. However, l wonder what formula they will use for the 'bonding' of baby and mother.

I feel uneasy about this because machines have no brains. Unless it is completely tested, they should not commence doing it.

It is far too unnatural for me. There is no opportunity for bonding when a robot carries the fetus.

I really don't know what to make of it. There's a lots of money involved and people struggling with IVF and infertility issues will have to shell a lot of bucks. Would the babies still be humans with feelings and emotions or will they only have bones and skins to make them look so?

@Kandae11 Some of the videos, don't know how true they are, are really scary. I remember watching a movie back in my school days, a late night movie, which showed in a very poor family, the father impregnated the wife only to sell the foetus...the mother never knew the reason for the repeated surgeries. That's a practice going on for years known to almost everyone. I read somewhere that they are using chemicals in food that are rendering couples infertile. This playing with God, with Nature, will have serious consequences one day.
