Do you give TV series a chance?

I wrote my last post and a comment from @DaddyEvil made me think about this and decided to write it up and see what you all thing about it.
When you find a new show to watch or a new series starts out do you give it a chance? I try to give a show 2-3 episodes before I decide if I am going to continue to watch it or not.
I learned this way back in like 2009. It was the show Sons of Anarchy which came out in 2008, and I watch the first two episodes and kind of thought it was alright, but I gave up on it.
Then a friend was like, how are you not watching it? You must go back and give it a good 4-5 episodes, and you will be hooked. He was absolutely right I did, and I was hooked. That’s one show I then sat down every night it was on and watched as it aired for the first time.
I don’t know if I have ever done that for any other show till the series ended.
So, from that experience I give a show 2-3 episodes at least before giving up on it. I would have missed out on a great show if I didn’t listen to my friend and gone back to watching it.

We have these reality shows both singing and dance. I find both of them entertaining but cannot say there is justice done to choose the best.
I feel here the ordinary get an opportunity to show case their talent.

By 2009, I'd already stopped watching television altogether and switched to watching stuff online. We still own a CRT screen television but it's only hooked up to my daughter's old gaming consoles. I watch DVDs on it once in a while but it can't pick up broadcast television anymore.
Anything that isn't interesting the first show isn't worth watching beyond that point, in my opinion.
I found other things that held my interest.
I watched Friends like that every Thursday evening. I watched every show of Knots Landing with my first wife. (But she also watched Dallas and I didn't like it.)
I only watched the first show of Breaking Bad and only sat through that entire episode because a friend was wanting to watch it and he'd forgotten it was on that night. He LOVED that show! I didn't. He kept trying to get me interested in it... I finally told him I'd watch another episode and I started it but it was boring to me so I switched the channel after about half an hour. I still feel like I wasted that hour and a half on that show.

I assume that is why they have some many different types of shows out there. Everyone likes different types of shows. Friends, Knots Landing and Dallas all shows I never got into but Breaking Bad was a decent show I didn't get into it as much as some, but I ended up watching it.

@Bensen32 Yes, that's true. Everybody has a "type" and trying to get them out of that type doesn't always work.

If it is a drama, I give it two episodes unless the actor is someone I really like (then I’ll give it a few more). If it’s a sitcom I’ll give it three episodes unless someone has specifically told me to hang in there because it would get better.
That being said, if filth is what they try to pass off as story, then I give no second chances.

I also give a series a few episodes before I'll give up on it. Sometimes it takes a few episodes for the whole plot, etc to happen.
