So…Now What?

What do you do after a vacation like that??
Recover.
Seriously, the long drive that I inflicted on myself to get home for my friend’s funeral (the equivalent of driving what I’d planned to cover over four days in two days) had my back screaming at me…after I’d just managed to shut it up over the climbing and pulling when I went to Delphi, Indiana.
I texted my brother, saying, “I’ll bet I know what you’re doing today.” With much nicer temperatures (it may have made it to 80F, but didn’t go over it), I was sure he was out playing golf. Oh, no. “I’m still recovering,” he told me.
“We don’t bounce back like we used to,” I replied.
“No, we don’t.”
Being over 60 is example after example of someone letting the air out of your basketball so you can’t bounce back.
I’m doing my exercises and resting. Tomorrow I take the car in for the “gee, how did I get 5,000 miles on it so quickly” oil change.
I’m also enjoying music documentaries. In the past couple of days I’ve watched documentaries on country-rock pioneer Gram Parsons and jazz guitarists Charlie Christian and Tal Farlow. Why? Why not!
Fascinating stuff. I learned I didn’t want to know much about Parsons (great songwriter, not too good as a human being), and was mesmerized by the innovation of Farlow and Christian. Charlie Christian was only 25 when he died of TB in 1942, but he was a trendsetter on guitar (playing lead AND electric)…not to mention he was a Black man playing in white bandleader Benny Goodman’s sextet in the 30s!
Y’all have a great evening.

I have to recover when I go to a doctor's appointment. I can't imagine what a gzillion miles of driving does to you. Rest up and have a good day.

Never a dull moment in your world, huh? Poor Charlie. That's way too early. TB was such an awful disease.

I actually like dull moments.
Yes, TB is awful. I remember my dad having a reaction to the test when I was a kid, because his dad had gone through a bout of it.

Recovery is the name of the game over 60... I was happy I was only having a little sciatic pain when I first get up from bed or a chair and then could move pain-free... I dropped a plate this morning and bent down to pick it up and now my hip/leg scream if I move a little bit on my bed. *sigh* Pretty rubbed Aspercreme into my lower back and the top of my left hip this evening and I've taken three extra strength Tylenols and it still hurts to move.
I hope you feel better quickly and your car enjoys the oil change.

It’s free…ish, I buy my oil changes three at a time, and it saves money. I don’t have to pay for this one; however, with all that dust I’m sure I’ll need a new air filter (it’s about time for one, anyway).
I know you’re not into music, but I’ll tell you a joke. Mick Jagger wrote a line that says, “What a drag it is getting old.” He was twenty two when he wrote it.

@FourWalls You take good care of your vehicle. I hope it lasts years and years for you.
OMG! Maybe if he didn't party so much/hard when he was younger, he wouldn't have felt so old already!

Lots of great nearby places for that! I might try going back to Red River Gorge.

I am glad you have been resting. And you are correct, we don't bounce back like we used to...trips wear me out, as does the unexpected (oh, and napping in a hospital in a very, very uncomfortable chair doesn't help, either!) ...but like your friend's passing, we just keep trying to do what we feel we need to do.

I’m freaking out over the prospect of jury duty. The “real” reason is probably what you said: the “unexpected,” the disruption of the old lady’s routine.

So often a call for jury duty fizzles into nothing. They may not pick you, and/or it may be settled out of court at the last minute. I’ve served on a jury before, and it’s not that bad, just mostly tedious. The last time I was called out for it, I had just had surgery and I got a doctors note.

The jazz historians call that “bebop.” I don’t know…just know it’s good.
