When Foxy Loxy came to visit.....

So last night just before 8pm my neighbour from the caravan opposite came over with a tub in his hand. He called me and I went out to him. He asked if he could put some leftover food .. the contents of the tub ...behind next doors can. I said yes but asked him why He explained that each evening around 8.30 a fox had come through a gap in the fence....he thought there was a family of them in the next field. They had been putting leftovers out for them and it had all gone by the next morning. He put the food out and I stood and waited ... Eventually Foxy Loxy came ... Sniffing out his supper. He was so beautiful. I didn't take a photo as I didn't want to scare him off. I hope to see him again this evening. Would you have put food out for a local fox ?

I guess I might. I mean, we have all sorts of wildlife around here. Raccoons, opossums and groundhogs mostly of that fare, along with the squirrels of course. Some I want to attract less than others. But I do sometimes put bread out for the birds and squirrels.

Wow ...you do have a lot of wildlife. Do any of them do any damage ? We have birds and squirrels but not the other animals you mentioned

@Traceyjayne I am sure someone around here has had a run in or two. I have not personally experienced any. We have coyotes running around too, but you hardly ever see them.

No, it can be dangerous to feed wildlife. You don't want them to get habituated to it.

I'm glad you got to see him and hope you can see him again. No, I wouldn't. Food left out here calls raccoons, possums and skunks, not foxes. We'd prefer not to have any of those hanging around.

@traceyjayne We had a one-eyed, one-eared tatty old fox who came calling at our last house. We also had a pheasant who loved our garden. You can guess what happened to the poor pheasant.

@Traceyjayne I suspect that it was also guilty of digging up a cat that I had inexpertly buried. The rest of the family don’t know that so please don’t tell.

I have no love for foxes but I understand it would have been a very special sight.

That is sooooo cool. Yes, I absolutely would feed a beautiful fox. I've only seen one in the 20 or so years we've lived here.

@LindaOHio I do keep trying ...I need to figure out how to shrink the photos as they are too big to be uploaded apparently.

I would love to see a fox. I wouldn't make him a pet.
