Another x-ray, another Consultant, another sick note !

So I was at the hospital today …..ongoing saga of the broken arm and swollen hand/arm. We arrived in good time and sat waiting for 15 minutes when my name was called ….only to be told to go for an x-ray. I was asked if I knew where imaging dept. was ….since I have been going regularly since April I assured him I knew the way. Another wait in imaging….then it took 4 ….yes 4, people to sort the machine and get me in the correct position for the x-ray. Back to the fracture clinic, and after another short wait I was called in again. The Consultant looked about 12 years old ….but do not let first impressions form a judgement. He was the best Consultant I have seen so far. Talked about what had happened and my treatment so far. Asked how I was feeling in myself …. Looked at the x-rays and it is still not healed …it is healing but it is taking a long time ….as those of you following my journey will be aware. He is going to sort out an email to physio ….yes, we talked about the problems with the Doppler scans and no physio so far. He has given me another sick note for work taking me up to the end of October. Schools are back next week so I will miss the first half term completely. Anyway, I came out feeling that someone had finally shown some interest and hopefully now we can get things moving….

I was thinking it's taking longer than normal for your arm to heal. I hope somebody can sort it out soon. At least you have more "vacation" time... (I'd be getting tired of vacation time by now if I were you.)

It was an incredibly bad break …..I think they should have operated on it but none of us really wanted that. I am enjoying the extra vacation time. I will never get fed up of that. Given the funds I would happily retire ….i wouldn’t stop totally but just work for myself not for anyone else.

@Traceyjayne At least you have another income from your hubby. When I was forced to retire, we didn't have another income. Pretty kept using my savings as if I was still working until it ran out. (She wouldn't listen to me at all.) Then she was frantic trying to figure out how to keep the household running. I'm glad she finally found out that Medicaid would pay her to help me when I can't see. That's enough to cover our bills. Then she started applying for government grants for help with electric and gas bills, rent and everything else. We're doing okay now and building savings again.

@DaddyEvil true, but we are both years from retirement. I am looking for something new to do. When we eventually do retire I want to be able to enjoy it and not have to worry.

Leaving there feeling like someone listened must have felt great. Hope the healing continues even if it's slow but glad that you are able to get more time off and not have to figure out a way to work with a messed up arm.

@Traceyjayne I really hope that physio helps. It must be terribly difficult to try to manage doing everything with only one arm.

Yes, the entire time only two consultants have taken time with me ….and I have seen a different consultant practically ever time I have gone for my appointment. I know there is no way I can work at the moment and I’m pleased that this consultant acknowledged this and has given me plenty of time to get physio….

He was great and actually physically examined my arm and hand.

At least someone listened and did what was appropriate even though healing took a long time.

I'm sorry it's taking your arm so long to heal but I'm glad the young man treated you well.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation, but I'm glad to see that progress, even if slow, is being made. Hopefully, consulting with other doctors can help speed up your healing process.

I would hope so. You have been suffering with this long enough I told you my ex that broke his leg was totally healed in 3 months..He had therapy though and I am sure his break wasn't as bad as yours.

Your arm is certainly taking its time to heal. Perhaps it will hurry up with some physio.

No matter how long the recovery takes, the important thing is that the result has been positive in the long term, take your time, take it easy, find a way to spend that medical rest.In such a way that the recovery seems quick to you, the emotional and mental part greatly influences recovery.
