Does this image remind you of a dolphin?

The photo is Vince’s. It immediately makes me think of a dolphin with its sleek lines. However, the ‘tail’ seems to be off-kilter. I don’t know what sort of plane it is and I’m not going to ask as I’d have to listen to a ten-minute informative talk about it. This is a bit short so here’s a few facts about dolphins, but specifically Hector’s dolphins which are the only cetaceans (aquatic mammals) endemic to New Zealand. Almost all sightings have been in murky coastal waters no more than 50 m (160 ft) deep. These are the smallest of the dolphin species and there are several sub-species. The total length of mature adults ranges from 1.2m (3 ft 11 in) to 1.6 m (5 ft 3 in). They are stocky with a rounded dorsal fin and no discernible beak.

@JudyEv I've never paid attention to how a plane looks before.

@DaddyEvil This one has nice 'lines' from the front and some look very sleek from the side.

I do not think it looks like a dolphin but interesting the dolphins come in different sizes. I always thought porpoises themight be the smalller versions of dolphins, but I guess they are just separate species.

@JudyEv I didn't know that Killer Whales were a type of dolphin! Learn something new everyday.

The nose reminds me a dolphin, not the tale. Dolphins are wonderful mammals.

True, dolphins don't have a tale like that.

@LadyDuck They do indeed. Dugongs seem very gentle too but I don't think they belong to the greater dolphin family.

I think it looks like a sh^rk with a big shark fin! And the front windows are the eyes and nose and then that line going across the bottom is the mouth. If you open it up you will see giant pointy shark teeth.

Well done you. There is nothing wrong with your imagination! lol I'm sure there is a plane with shark teeth painted on the 'face'.

That is small. The image actually reminds me more of "killer whales", which I believe are actually the largest dolphin family. I would have to research to know for sure.

Good idea to not ask. I’m like that, too, sorry to say: ask me who sang a song and you’re going to hear who sang it, who wrote it, who covered it, and who made the strings the bass player used! Yes, it does have a dolphin-like appearance. Maybe the sleekness of the dolphins inspired the shape of planes!

I guess the dolphin/plane/bird shape is aerodynamically efficient. I've noticed you know a lot about many songs!!

Fair enough. But don't you think the DC3 has a nose a bit like a dolphin? Vince identifies every plane that flies over here. We're near a small airfield so we see lots of planes.

I love dolphins. I remember them swimming alongside the boat when we went whale watching on the east coast. I don't see the dolphin. Must be just me.
