There are songs that you don’t have to hear to “hear.” You see the title, and the song is playing in your head. Good ol’ ear worms. Welcome to one of them. This is one of the songs this month that feature ballads and songs that make you gently move, not “get up and boogie” (as the title of the Silver Convention song said). This is for @rebelann , who’s had too much rocking out to the songs I post…so I’m deliberately going with more mellow tunes. Here’s today’s song.
Do You Really Want to Hurt Me - Culture Club
Culture Club, and good ol’ Boy George! Come on! Let’s put our hands together for a guy who looks like Brooke Shields and Bob Marley!
(Robin Williams)
Sometimes I think that Culture Club could ONLY have existed in the 80s. (Then I look at Kiss, Elton John, and all the glam rockers in the 70s…
) They were so visual, especially front man George O’Dowd. Culture Club and MTV were made for each other.
And, while this is not my favorite Culture Club song, this was their major breakthrough. It’s one of those songs you can sway to and sing along with the chorus (come on, does anyone know any lyrics to this song other than the chorus?
), and it’s a happy transport back to the early 80s.
With all the drug problems he’s had in his life, I’m happy that Boy George is still with us.

I know. I didn’t exactly enjoy watching them as much as listening to them.

Me too, I never wore makeup so he obviously covered what I didn’t wear.

For a while, years ago Boy George lived a couple of miles from me, in the local town.

Me too! I enjoyed Colour By Numbers more, but I liked both of their first two albums.

I remember that song sung by Culture Club when it played on the radio in New Orleans.

@FourWalls Our local radio station in Lake Charles plays the song since it fits their claim to play hit songs from the 80s and 90s.

I read that VH-1 recently said that they were actually going to air nothing but videos for a week. My initial thought: “people still have VH-1?”
