Hi friends, another story of DISGUSTING groceries at sky-high prices. So not only are you getting robbed blind, you’re also buying crap. I went into town yesterday (my old town) because that’s where my bank is and I had to do some stuff for my next new living situation adventures. Kroger was right down the street, and they have the best coffee cream - the heavy whipping cream. Their brand always reminds me of Elmer’s glue, that’s how creamy and thick it is! Makes coffee taste extra-delicious. Didn’t feel like going in, I hate getting just one item but this cream is always worth it. Come home, took a nap, woke up and my first thought was yayyyy coffee-time. With the awesome Kroger cream. I make the pot of coffee and take a sip… I’m like hmm something’s not right here. Tastes like I put milk and sugar in this. This does not have that rich, creamy, buttery, Elmer’s glue deliciousness. I was convinced I just made a bad pot of coffee. It happens, you didn’t measure the scoops right, too much water, etc. But something told me to try the cream. The brand new bottle of cream that was 6 BUCKS. It tasted like old milk and overripe fruit. I checked the date, it said Dec. 20th But this cream was spoiled. What a freakin shame, had to dump the whole thing and steal some of my mom’s h.w. cream from downstairs. I dug thru my garbage can and found the receipt, you can bet I will be getting a FULL REFUND for this and no, I don’t want another one. Not from there. Something must have gone wrong during delivery, maybe they stayed warm too long in the trucks and they stocked them anyway. But still, people just don’t care anymore. I might even send my Dad to deal with this, he’s always shopping there anyway but I don’t like to make the trip and waste gas. So just like the gross candy apple from Meijer, now we have gross heavy whipping cream at Kroger. Honestly, you’re better off avoiding grocery stores and just getting food from a family-style restaurant. I stopped at Country Inn too and got a veggie-cheese omelette w/ hash browns and guess what .. all fresh. And I can stretch it out a few days too. Probably a better way to save some cash. What’s your latest grocery food disappointment? Mine seem to be stacking up.

Certainly prices have gone up and up. I've been paying more and more attention to specials.

And you’re in Australia.. it’s happening in other places too I guess. I know some Americans are moving to other countries to beat inflation, but maybe even that won’t work. Thanks Judy

@Melanie_Marie The American financial situation has upset the economy in many countries. I'm sure there will be quite a period of adjustment.

It is still cheaper to cook at home. . . though not necessarily cheap.

You can say that again, I was thinking what if I needed that heavy cream for a recipe? The whole thing would’ve tasted “off” and ruined. Not really sure which ingredients you can trust anymore, without trying them first. Thanks NJ Chicaa

I have that problem with Coca Cola, and it’s an unavoidable problem for me. Some trucks carrying soda end up just sitting in the heat so long the Coke turns. It becomes absolutely disgusting. My dad used to keep Coke in his garage for me, but I had to politely tell him to quit buying it because during the summer it got so hot the Coke “turned”. Stores end up getting Coke that is disgusting, and the consumer is out of luck unless they try to return it. I never do.

I know what you mean, Amber. I buy caffeine-free Diet Coke to blend in with regular diet I’ll get from McDonald’s or something, and sometimes the bottles of caffeine-free have this strange “Pepsi-like” taste to them, can’t quite put my finger on it but I know that weird “turn” you are speaking of. This isn’t a money-saver, but I’ve had better luck just buying a couple bottles from a gas station. They’re refrigerated, and in my experience, always seem to taste pretty fresh. Then I just find a way to spread those 2 bottles out over a week, if I can. Better tighten that lid! Or now you’ve got flat pop. Can’t win!

I am sorry for your bad experiences. We still can buy good products at our grocery stores, not all, but there are a few I know I can trust. Restaurants have become too much expensive.

@Melanie_Marie - The larger grocery stores are those I do not like anymore. The small ones I have near us are still very good.

That’s great you still have some trusted grocery stores you can depend on. Over here, and even when I drive back home, my usual faves have been disappointing. Oh how I wish I would’ve been on assignment for this one particular cream, woulda reported the heck out of it. Thanks Anna

I did get some bad ham a while back. I just sent in a complaint with pictures and they sent me some vouchers. As for eating out, it's no way to save money at all. With what that omelet cost you, which probably contained no more than three eggs, you probably could have bought three dozen. lol

Jim, up until yesterday I would have agreed with you 100% But the amount of food I got from that restaurant (mom & pop) first thing I noticed was how heavy the bag was. When I got it home and opened it up, I’d say there was probably a 4-5 egg omelette with all the cheese and loaded with veggies, and as for the hash browns, that had to be a double order. I immediately took out my plates and started portioning it out for the next few days. This restaurant knows what they’re doing. They realize what’s going on with grocery stores, and they’re probably thinking “give them more, and they’ll come back for more.” That was A LOT of food they gave me, still have 2 plates for maybe today and later tonight or tmrw. $12 total The crappy bottle of cream was half that price. So I don’t know, I’m a big budgeter but the old ways aren’t really working anymore.. trying some new tricks.. thanks Jim

@Melanie_Marie Hey, whatever works for you, I won't knock it. I have actually found ways to reduce my grocery costs, in the store. Granted, it hasn't been easy. But it is definitely possible to do it.

We do not just notice the high prices of our loved products but it's obvious too that the quality are no longer the same.
