So I was looking at something offered to me for free. It didn’t appeal to me, but I was reading more about the product, and it said at one point, not even in capital letters, that it can cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. Say what? This was sold on Amazon, and was not even a food or liquid (of any sort)! What are people doing? What are people buying? No way everyone who buys that will read that information. They’re going to trust Amazon isn’t knowingly selling cancerous items. Spoiler Alert: I didn’t take it.

Jeez. I love those commercials for "medications" of one sort or another where the announcer says really quickly after the commercial's ending.... "Don't take (medication name) if you are allergic to it (how do you know if you've never taken it!?). May cause cancer, blindness, inability to think, paralyzation, depression, loss of limb function...call your doctor if anything of this sort happens." (okay, maybe they don't describe all that, but it may as well be). I remember turning to my Mom after one of those commercials and saying, "Gee, I really want to go run out and take that."

My goodness!!! I was just reading of people hospitalized in Spain after buying online Vitamin D supplements. The dose was too high and Vitamin D is toxic in high quantities.

@AmbiePam - Online you can find many interesting things, but also a lot of dangerous garbage.

I found out recently that vitamin D is used as rat poison. It's all in the dose!

It was a blue marble record book that you get from Staples. Apparently, it’s what is on the inside pages that causes the health problems.

@AmbiePam They shouldn't even be sold if they potentially cause serious problems.. Sheesh!

@snowy22315 Many everyday items contain poisonous substances, in most cases it's all about the dosage. Even foods have 'allowable limits' of pesticides and things like that which are known to cause serious harm at high doses.

Unfortunately, we can no longer distinguish between what is safe and what is not because the writing is too small to read.

That sounds very worrying. Maybe they are just covering their backs.

It is good to be careful and read the fine print. You never know what you will find or be exposed to.

It is wise of you, and everyone, to read the product information provided-it is there for a reason.

I would avoid any product that is sold on Amazon claiming to be free and with reports of cancer if used.

I was very curious, I looked for 'blue marble record book' and sure enough as you say, on Amazon there it was, with the warning right in the description. I wonder what the actual chemical(s) is/are? Presumably they only cause harm at higher concentrations or if you ingest them or something like that. Apparently California Proposition 65 typically includes substances commonly found in plastics, inks, pigments, or adhesives used in book covers or bindings. So that covers a whole lot of 'everyday' items.

That's a little sketchy. I was offered a product last week. A patch to help with something and the more I read about it the sketchier I felt about it. I guess it proves that not all free things are good. Lol..hope you got offered some better ones
