Slower Dancing Songs: Heartbeat

Wow, what a game! We had two baseball games that had exciting, 9th-inning walkoffs yesterday, but the most amazing one was the Baltimore Orioles. Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Cal Ripken Jr.’s 2,131st consecutive game, they were no-hit for 8 2/3 innings, down to their last strike….and won the game. (The other walk-off winner was the St. Louis Cardinals.
) Yes, I know most people are talking about football (that’s all that’s on the TVs here in the restaurant), but it’s still baseball season! And ANY time is music season, so here’s another song for @rebelann to enjoy without dancing too much to.
Heartbeat - Buddy Holly
This was a relative bomb when first released in 1958. It only made it to #82 on the charts. Three months after it was released as a single, Buddy Holly was gone and every song he made in his all-too-short career became cherished.
There are some Holly songs that you can get dancing to at full tilt (like “Peggy Sue” and “That’ll Be the Day”), but this one slowed the pace down without slowing it down too much. (If it’s still too fast we have a ballad tomorrow.
)
Heartbeat
Written by Bob Montgomery and Norman Petty
Recorded by Buddy Holly
Released as a single, 1958
I know that true love will be:

Oh, go drink some eggnog.
Oh, did y’all have any flooding or severe weather yesterday? I saw there was a tornado up in Massachusetts, and there was a severe thunderstorm watch down through Jersey.

A bit fast for my slow dance moves.
We had a tv series called Heartbeat, which used this as its theme tune but not sung by Buddy. The show was a police drama set in the sixties. It was an easy watch with lots of great tunes played during the shows. Some great characters too, especially Greengrass, played by the brilliant Bill Maynard.

@FourWalls I’ve never heard of The Smoking Room. Is it worth a look?

@Orson_Kart — I thought the episodes I saw were funny. I’d still rather watch the old ITC shows from the late 60s, though.

Yeah, I’ve worn Rebelann out with all the fast songs. Of course, now that I’ve got her calmed down, we’ll go back to the rockers. Next month.
I noticed that this was the theme songs to the series Heartbeat. I need to catch up on British shows…haven’t watched one since The Smoking Room, and how old is that!

I read that in the information about the song. I think that’s neat that they used an old Buddy Holly song for the theme!

I don't know this one. I think I told you that the kids in hubby's school used to tell him he looked like Buddy Holly.

That’s two days in a row they’ve walked off the defending World Series champions. Dodger fans on Facebook want Dave Roberts fired. (Like it never happened to Tommy Lasorda…)

Some songs can be good because of the difference in musical tastes of each person, a song may sound good to one person's ears but not necessarily to another listener. and I think a rating of 82 is not a bad thing. a song sometimes needs a process to enter the hearts of its listeners. I think if we give it a chance for a while longer, this song could become a hit among the public in general.
