I don't want to be a harbinger of bad news, but I just can't understand this: A mother murdering her two children before taking her own life because of poverty. I am not wealthy either, but how could anyone sane do that? Your thoughts on this?

We should know the whole story before expressing our thoughts. May be she had such a bad life that she did not want to see her children live the same horrible life.

I agree. That was what most people concluded. Life must have been horrible for her.

Why at all did she give birth to them. That was very cruel of her.

That was my first question. Why suffer the pangs of pregnancy and then do that to the kids eventually.

It is truly tragic news, and when someone loses all hope in life and the future, they may feel that ending their life is the only way to escape the suffering they are enduring. While her actions cannot be justified as the right choice, it is possible to try to understand what might have been in her mind when committing such a devastating act toward her children and herself. It could stem from mental health struggles or a desperate attempt to find relief from the pain and suffering they were experiencing.

@Jenaisle The real issue is that we often take mental health problems too lightly, without truly understanding what might be going on in someone's mind.

You're right. It’s a heartbreaking situation. While we can never fully grasp her mindset, it's important to approach it with compassion and awareness of the deep mental anguish that may have led to such a tragic act. Mental health support is crucial in preventing such devastating outcomes for individuals and families.

Some people just lose it and take the extreme step. She might have lost all hope and left with only despair. Murdering her children is so horrible but in her anguish she might have thought better that they leave with her too. I cannot imagine taking such a step but I recall one doing that as he was suffering excruciating pain from cancer.

This is something I can't understand either. I mean, in the animal kingdom, it is not uncommon for a mother to kill some of her litter to save some if times are lean or there are other issues. But these are animals without the same senses we, as humans have. So...I can't put the two together.

Likewise, Jim. I just can't understand. I believe that the mother must have some mental illness.

I don’t believe it is ever one thing. She obviously had mental issues. That may be what she said, but I would bet her mental state was altered, and that’s simply what her brain deceived her to think. If she had been wealthy, my bet would be her mental state would have had her do the same thing, only for a different reason.

Yes, that could be a possibility. It's her mental state. No matter what life brings her, she may do the same thing again.

It's very sad... The woman couldn't see a way out of the situation and thought she chose the best solution.

I don't know the woman's circumstances. All life is sacred. There must have been something that could have been done besides that.

Perhaps, if there was one person who had comforted her, she may still have a ray of hope.

"how could anyone sane do that?" That’s no longer a sound mind at work. When someone does something that tragic, their thinking is no longer clear or rational—they’ve already been consumed by despair.

Yes, I concur. There's a thin line between being sane and being crazy.
