Disney on parade at a wind ensemble concert

About a week ago we went to a concert put on by the Darling Range Wind Ensemble in Western Australia. The theme was ‘Disney’ and many of the performers dressed up as Disney characters. Maybe some were just cartoon characters but they all enjoyed the evening, as did the audience. Vince was asked to take some photos. Our niece is upper left in the lower left image. The three young girls behind Kermit the Frog (lower right) are the three chipmunks from Alvin and the Chipmunks. The winner was the girl in black in the lower left photo. I don’t know my Disney characters but she had the most enormous pair of antelope-type horns which unfortunately aren’t in the photo. Thanks to Vince for the photos.

I'm glad the characters enjoyed themselves, too. I'd think being in costume would get in the way of playing instruments. The character in black with ginormous horns may be Maleficent. (She's an evil fairy in the Sleeping Beauty movie and also the main person in the two Maleficent movies. I've never watched the last two movies but probably should.)

That's what I concluded too. My girls have watched those films several times!

@Fleura The first time I saw Maleficent, I thought her horns were part of her costume and didn't realize they were horns until Pretty said something about her horns.

I don't think I've watched a Disney movie since the cartoon version of 101 Dalmatians so I had little idea of what most of them were - except Kermit of course.

That looks like fun although playing the clarinet in the Kermit outfit might be a bit tricky!

@JudyEv You did say the theme was Disney. I missed it I assumed that the theme you talked about was for the dress.

Apparently it's Malificent. A couple of members suggested her. I'm really out of touch with Disney characters.

They look as they are having a good time, but I am sure it's harder to play wearing those costumes.

It looks like a lot of fun, but as someone else said, I think it would make playing more difficult.

The guy took the bag off his head and Kermit unzipped his mouth and hopefully the rest chose their costumes with playing in mind.

In the lower left photo there is the Queen of hearts and Maleficent. How fun they all dressed up like that.

Very cute Both of sides boys were in the HS marching band. She loved going to the band events, and seeing their various looks and designs. We went a couple of times to see them.

I know marching bands are a big thing over there. Marching isn't so popular here and we certainly don't have the spectacular displays that you do.

That sounds like such a fun and colorful concert! I can imagine how lively it must have been with everyone dressed up as Disney and cartoon characters. Your niece must have enjoyed being part of it, too.

@JudyEv Absolutely! Just seeing everyone dressed up already sets such a joyful mood. It makes the whole concert feel extra magical right from the start.

The band in particular really got into the dressing-up part. Only a few of the audience did.

Most are quite young but they play really well. Interestingly, there are more girls than guys.

This is a very unique idea. I imagine it would be difficult to play instruments in costume.

Oh that looks like so much fun for both the orchestra as well as the audience. I think that in the upper left corner, the one with the red box on his head would be challenged to perform in that. I'm not up on my Disney characters either.
