We're Doing Banquet Pot Pies

Don't get me wrong. I can make a homemade pot pie, and it's quite good. The thing is, we keep a few things on hand around the house that are what I call, "Quick, I don't really feel like cooking" nights. I usually still make sides. Like tonight. I am making Bremer Salisbury steaks we get from Aldi, because they are currently a little bit cheaper than On-Cor. I am also making cut green beans with a little bit of butter and a red sauce pasta. Things we keep on hand that are quick and easy are Innovasian honey chicken or orange chicken which we usually slightly modify. We keep Gorton's beer battered fish. We usually have On-Cor riblets or chicken parmigiana, and of course the Bremer Salisbury steaks. We keep easy sides like French fries or tater tots. We use Smithfield and Hatfield marinated pork tenderloins for additional quick main dishes. But it has been years since I have bought Banquet pot pies, but I remember as a kid, I used to love them. And at both Walmart and Ruler, they are only a buck a piece. That's cheap. So, on my next shopping trip, which will be tomorrow at Ruler, I plan to get four of them, and when we have them, we'll have two each. It's quick. It's easy. It's cheap. It's good eats. And I have had them on the list for a while and just haven't gotten them yet. Have you ever had them? Do you like them?

I hope they are still as good as you remember them from the past.

@porwest I am curious to know. So many products have changed and not for the best.

@LadyDuck I think part of it is, when you make mostly homemade, you realize how much you thought was good was actually crap. lol

I find they don't have enough filling, especially meat, for my liking.

@porwest Yup. You can put as much meat and veggies in there as you want to.

@LindaOHio Same goes with a lot of canned soups. They're just not hearty enough. But when I make my own, I can make them really full meals.

I guess I will have to gauge it when I get them. Like I said, it's been years. I do know when I make mine from scratch, they're quite hearty.

I never tasted it, I just learned it from this blog, lol! Maybe its not available in our country. Buko Pie is the best local Pies in the Philippines.

They may not sell the Banquet brand there, but I suspect there might be similar options under another name.

I have pot pie soup now, Progresso chicken pot pie “style” soup that I add the starch to. And, like you, I keep a lot of stuff around for quick meals. Especially in the winter.

Winter is a time, in our house, when we make a lot of soups and casseroles, and run the crock pot more. I don't buy many can soups, but I might just start. It's easy, and definitely quick. The pot pie soup sounds pretty good, actually.

@porwest — I have things ready to go for a batch of infamous potato soup. Just waiting for the weather to cooperate.

@FourWalls Potato soup has always been touch and go for me. It really depends on who makes it. I have never made it myself.

I used to make homemade pot pies until my ex started called them "slops". I thought they were really good but stopped making them after that. Pretty loves pot pies and buys them once in a while.

Slops? Hmm. To me they are just good eats. But everyone has their thing. There are things I don't make as well that the wife doesn't like. Although they are few and far between, thankfully.

@porwest My ex wasn't even eating them. She just saw what was on Pretty's plate when she came over. At the time it really pissed me off and would probably piss me off if it happened now. I can cook and she knows it.

I am pretty sure I've had Banquet Chicken Pot Pies. They did the job.

It's been such a long time, I have no idea if I still like them. We shall see. For the moment they are still in the freezer waiting for a dinner date.

I eat them on occasion. I know I have one in the freezer now. I like the Impossible Chicken Pot Pie. They are simple to make and delicious.

I probably won't have them often. But if they are good, I might at least keep some around.

I actually just bought two Marie Callender chicken pot pies. I haven't bought them in years since Dale is gluten intolerant, but something once in a while doesn't seem to hurt. Enjoy yours!

I might spring for the Marie Callendar ones once or twice if the Banquet ones happen to be as good as I remember them. But the Marie Callendar ones are quite expensive.

I don't think we have that brand here but we keep pies in the freezer too.

Yeah, Banquet might not be sold there. Not sure. But there are other brands here too. I think Banquet is just the most common one and the cheapest.
