We've lashed out

‘Lashing out’ can either mean either spending more than you usually would or to suddenly attack someone physically or verbally. In this case, it means spending more than usual. We’re going to a concert on 4 October. The concert is at a deserted old homestead. We’re staying at a nearby caravan park and there will be a bus running from the park to the venue. You can take a picnic or buy food and wine there. As we’ll be in the motor-home and catching a bus to the venue, we’ve ‘lashed out’ and paid for a three-course meal. This will be supplied in an Esky or cooler, which seems very Australian. I’m not sure what an Esky would be called in other countries but I think ‘cooler’ might be better known. I must be sure to take my camera. The photo is from a concert we attended at a fancy vineyard. It was a good few years ago and I'm not now sure of the artist. Is it Alison Krauss?

I think that Esky is what we call an "ice box". You spent more but that was the good decision as you go there in your motor-home. I have no idea who is the artist in this photo.

It was at the Leeuwin vineyard. We went there a number of times but I can't remember all the artists.

@JudyEv - I have a problem remembering names, particularly artists I have only seen once.

Not sure who the artist is. Might be Krauss? I have no idea. I haven't really kept up with her. As for "lashing out," I have never heard of the term being used to spend money. But, I guess if that's how it's used "down under," that's how it is used, and I have no complaints.

I'm glad now that I mentioned the two meanings. I did wonder if spending up big would be known elsewhere.

I did not know lashing out had other meanings than just speaking angrily. Esky is yet another word that is new to me

A woman might lash out on a new coat or a man on a new car. I think Esky is a brand name but it's used for any of the cooler bags that are available.

The only thing that I understand is the lashing out, many people lash out because of anger andthe toxicity of their environment. Ihave limited knowledge when it comes to motor-home, I just love how it looks from youtube videos, its so cool.

Lashing out does have two meanings. The motor-home is like a mini-home on wheels.

An esky is what we call an ice chest. Some we call coolers too. What a treat to have a three-course meal. It's hard to say if that is her. I like her music.

I have been spending more than usual for this trip to NJ in November. We are also going to a concert. I bought a dress and shoes. I just bought a new purse. I told my boyfriend to dress up too. I will be getting a coat to wear up there too.

It's always a bit of a thrill to dress up and go out for the evening. Enjoy the concert when it happens.

Alison Krauss?! I love her! Yes, in America we call it a “cooler”.

They had some very big names at those concerts. I think they stopped with Covid. The hosts were getting very elderly by then too.

I hope so too. I'm keen to see how many will be there as it's well out in the sticks.

I only knew that 'lash out' meant suddenly speaking angrily to someone , criticizing someone angrily and suddenly attacking someone.

We didn't realised there was a caravan park there but we'll go to visit it another day but while we're in the area.

Yes, an Esky would be a cooler here. We have local concerts like that but people always take their own coolers of food and drink with them. And "lashing out" would mean getting into a physical or verbal fight to us.

It's just easier when we're in the motor-home although we have good cooking facilities.

In our part of the country we don't get such concerts. However we may get entertaining stage shows where most often film songs are sung.

We are hoping to get to a stage show later in our trip. It is based on Romeo and Juliet but with a twist.

I'd never heard about lashing out meaning to spend more. Interesting. I hope you have a marvelous time. I have no idea who the young lady in the photo is.
