Highland cabin.

The cabin that my brother owns here in the Scottish Highlands, and its location, are well worth a mention. Towards the end of a hot afternoon we sat on the veranda looking down the lough towards the sea. All was quiet except for the occasional breath of air rustling the trees and the many layers of birdsong. The lough shimmered in the light from the hot sun before it plunged into the sea, dragging with it all the orange and green light of the western sky. So we retreated indoors and lit a log fire and read for quite a while. I’m reading a French detective novel which has references to several towns that we have visited this week, all connected to oysters. And I discovered that not far away, further up the hillside, another cabin of similar style to my brother’s but in better condition, is for sale. It’s on the market for £160,000, and if it weren’t for certain practical considerations we would happily sell our own house in a not so nice town in Ireland and move here. The picture is of the cabin for sale and not a very adequate one. It has three bedrooms and all the necessary etceteras. Why is life complicated? Or why do I make it complicated?

You don’t think it’s meant for you and your family? Would your wife not be agreeable? I’d like for you to be happy.

@ambiepam Our daughter has Down Syndrome which in itself is not a problem, but what happens when we are no longer able to look after her adequately, especially in a place as remote as the island of Mull - that’s the dilemma.

@xFiacre I knew she had Down Syndrome, but I guess your brother is around the same age as you, huh. So that wouldn’t be of any help either.

@AmbiePam And my brother is away a lot at his house in France. My two other daughters are in Edinburgh and Manchester but at least my two sons are in Belfast so they will be on hand when the time comes. Making provision for the future isn’t easy as you will know.

That does look the ideal retirement retreat but you're right. Many things have to be taken into consideration when you contemplate moving.

That looks like a very peaceful setting and at your brother's cabin also. It sounds like ya'll are having a great time there! As with all, there are good points and bad points. You have to weigh them out and see what is best for you.

I don't life is complicated. People make it so. You expect certain things I suppose and so that complicates a more basic existence.

That is so lovely, and look at the sky, is all blue and white. I love the summer view! Still, its so beautiful, I think it will be good to live at.
