We Got a Great Deal on Some Zucchini

Not every weekend, but several weekends a year, our local fairgrounds runs a flea market, which is always fun to walk around look at all the junk. Sometimes we find something of interest, other times it's just a fun way to kill a couple of hours. But the last two times we went, there is a woman there who sells a variety of produce. Most of it doesn't interest me, but she sells 3 zucchinis for $2, and they're HUGE. Way bigger than anything you can get in the stores. And they're good. And $2 for 3 is an awesomely cheap price. So, of course, I have been prone to get some. And last night I cooked some up, this time opting for roasting it with onions. Man, was that good eats. Set the oven at 400 degrees, toss the zucchini and onions in olive oil and add a little bit of seasoning, spread it out on a baking pan, and cook for about 20 minutes or so. Wow!

You're welcome. You know, this site, as much as we all talk about food, has that effect more often than sometimes I'd care to admit. lol

One of the neighbors here shares his produce with the neighborhood. He sets up a little table with different items. He always has squash, cucumber, zuchinni so I had it a few times during the summer. I am into fall and winter squash mode now.

Does he give it away or sell it? Either way, nothing like fresh from the garden. There's just something about it.

My zucchini didn't do well last year so I didn't bother planting any this year. Back in BC, I grew a 10-pounder one year.

I grew zucchini a couple years in a row a few years ago and got a pretty nice yield. Maybe next year I will try again. I really like zucchini and it's not really that hard to grow, I find.

How do you cut the zucchini for that? I usually fry it in a skillet but it eats a lot of oil. I want to try putting it in the oven as well.

@porwest have you ever tried cutting it like spaghetti and cooking it that way? I tried doing it once, but they fell apart in the skillet. I guess I was doing it wrong.

I cut them into thick half moons. I do them in the skillet as well, although I generally cut them a bit smaller. Either way, they're delicious.

@lovebuglena I have not. But In have seen the "cutters." I would think it would be mushy, but that's just me.

@sathviksouvik Maybe you could order some seeds online and grow some yourself if you can't find it at the market.

I think it might be in the same family, but the texture and flavor are different. It's very good. If you ever can find some, I'd say get some. It's DELICIOUS.

As I said in another discussion, hubby brought zucchini home from the library. I already had three in the refrigerator. We have had it several different ways and I still have three big ones in a grocery sack. So I am glad for any ideas.

Sounds good to me I love zucchini, I know there are farm type markets here somewhere but no way for me to get to any of them, I remain true to ordering online just not fresh fruit and veggies,

I made zucchini with onions and cut up tiny bits of stew meat last night. With Slap Yo Mama seasoning and garlic, it was so good. Soon as we are back in a house, I'll try it your way.

I am thinking of growing them next years…..I find that in a meal they are very watery but they are great for in cakes.

I get too much zucchini from MOW. I prefer yellow squash.
