The Travails of Being a Sister

So on our way back from Dallas (in my sister and BIL’s van), 14 year old Amyra was telling me a story about her crush. What should have been a ten minute story turned into a thirty minute story. When I was about to fall over (I was pretty sick), I pointed towards my stepmom and suggested she tell grandma. Diana gamely began to hear the story I had just heard, and about 20 minutes later, six year old Annelyn clapped her hands and said, “Okay, Amyra, let’s wrap this up.”
I had to work hard not to laugh. Amyra has said to me before that she wishes she and her sister got along with each other as well as me and Mindy. I laughed and explained to her we didn’t get along as children at all.
As you can imagine, Amyra did not take kindly at being told to “wrap it up”.

That is amusing but kids tend to get restless and tired of hearing one thing,

That’s such a vivid and funny little slice of family life — thanks for sharing it!
The scene plays out like a sitcom episode: Amyra, completely absorbed in the drama of her own story (as only a 14-year-old can be), holding the room captive; you, hanging on for dear life while battling sickness; Diana stepping in with saintly patience; and then little Annelyn, six years old, delivering the perfect comic timing and brutal honesty that only young kids can get away with — “Okay, Amyra, let’s wrap this up.” That’s gold.

Children can be so funny ….shame people lose that when they become adults.

That Annelyn sounds like a corker! Nothing wrong with that...she keeps you all hopping! That trio of children sound like so much fun to be around!

That is absolutely priceless!
Annelyn stepping in as the tiny, impatient producer is the kind of sibling honesty every family needs. Your point about not getting along as kids is so true—it gives Amyra some hope for the future!
