1980 - The Shining This psychological thriller is based on Stephen King's novel of the same name and is directed and produced by Stanley Kubrick. Recovering alcoholic Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson), goes for an interview for a caretaker position at the Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies. It's in a very isolated spot and will be closed for the winter. The manager warns Jack that the isolation can be tough; but Jack assures him that's what he needs to do some writing. The manager also tells Jack about another caretaker about a decade ago that killed his wife, two daughters and himself at the hotel. Jack says that is the type of thing that would interest his family. Jack's wife, Wendy (Shelly Duvall), and son, Danny (Danny Lloyd) will be staying with him at the hotel. Danny has premonitions and seizures; and the cook at the Overlook, before he leaves for the season, tells Danny that he has "The Shining". Room 237...The bloody elevator...The twins..."Here's Johnny!"...The maze... Definitely a movie for the Halloween season. Photo Credit: Pixabay

I’ve never seen it, believe it or not. But I know the “here’s Johnny” part…it’s part of popular culture! (Like the horse’s head in The Godfather.)

It's a pretty good movie. We went to see the hotel that they took the outside views of. It was hot down below and sn**wing when we got to the top where the hotel was.

That is one I saw on AMC. I remember Stephen King saying he hated the “Here’s Johnny.” line. I liked it, personally.

I loved The Shining both the movie with Nicholson as well as the Mini TV Series.

@LindaOHio The mini TV series was much more similar to the book than the movie. Stephen King disliked Stanley Kubrick's film adaptation. He said the movie depicted Wendy, a "screaming dish rag" and portrayed Jack, as already crazy rather than a sympathetic man driven to madness by the hotel. Those who read the book can only agree with him.

The Shining, to me, is a timeless classic and definitely right up my alley. I was always a Stephen King fan as well, and even though several of the adaptations of his books didn't pan out well, The Shining was definitely a winner in my book.

@porwest It was really hot that day. By the time we got halfway up the mountain, it was s**wing. It was weird seeing the "Overlook" in person.

@LindaOHio I have never been there. It would be a place I'd like to see though. Although, I have always wanted to drive by the King mansion in Maine. Maybe one of these days.

I have never seen this one but might have to check it out. I do know the Here's Johnny line too... If you like Stephen King stuff.... 1408 is a very interesting movie....very trippy.

I've seen 1408. I'd like to see The Stand. I have the 700-page book but haven't read it yet.

I would watch again the 2021 film The Conjuring - The Devil Made It. And its sequel The Conjuring - The Last Rites in Netflix.

@Nakitakona I don't have Netflix. They might have them on YouTube; but I don't like to watch scary movies when I'm alone.

I love both the movie and the book. However, I think Stephen King made a couple of mistakes on the movie, The cook who came to try to save them should have been left alive like in the book and the hotel should have exploded what a more spectacular ending I say but waht was, was.
