1960 - Psycho Psycho is a horror film directed by the great Alfred Hitchcock and is based on a novel of the same name by Robert Bloch. It is considered a piece of cinematic art and one of the greatest films of all times. It received 4 Academy Award nominations, including one for Hitchcock's direction. Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) is a real estate secretary. She steals $40,000 because her boyfriend, Sam Loomis (John Gavin), is delaying their marriage due to his debts. She drives off to Sam's home but becomes tired late in the evening and during a torrential rainstorm. She stops at the Bates Motel where proprietor Norman Bates (the terrific Anthony Perkins), sets her up in a room for the night. The plot twists, screeching score and Perkin's flawless acting make this a must-see. Many people were afraid of taking a shower after seeing this movie. There were sequels, remakes and a TV series that followed this 1960 film. Photo Credit: Pixabay

I have watched the 1960 movie several times. The first time I was a young girl and I was really scared.

@LindaOHio I always thought that Anthony Perkins had a mental problem. It showed in all his movies.

I’ve never seen all of it. I know the premise and the famous scene (that was chocolate sauce in the drain, given it was a black-and-white film).

@LindaOHio I’ve seen many other movies with Perkins in them, but I will always picture Hannibal Lecter when I think of him!

I have seen this movie many times. I never read the book. There is a documentary about Ed Guin on Netflix. Hitchcock was inspired by his story and did Psycho. Ed Guin was a serial killer who stole bodies and things out of their flesh. I haven't seen all of the documentary yet. He was the inspiration of Silence of the Lambs too.

It pushed the boundaries of censorship. Not only the shower scene but showing a toilet was a first.

The original is a timeless classic that will never be absent a MAJOR creep factor. A+ if you ask me.

Yes and it pushed the boundaries of censorship -- the shower scene; and they showed a toilet for the first time.

@LindaOHio Funny to think back then those were boundaries, but I do recall old shows where married people slept in separate beds. Weird. lol

I have heard a lot about this movie. One of the most famous Thrillers perhaps of all times. Also I think earlier many people were of the impression that Hitchcock used to write Novels but later we found that he was just a filmmaker. I saw his "Dial M for Murder", and a Bollywood Movie was almost a straight lift of that!
