A Silver Lining Dressed as a Kitten Named Butch

There are occasions when I think back to Butch. He was our first "warehouse cat" who we found under our work desk in the warehouse one day back in 2020. He was a kitten. Unfortunately, he was very sick when we found him, although we didn't know that at the time. He wasn't active like you'd expect a kitten to be, but we thought maybe he was just unsure of us. A couple days after we found him, or I should say, after he found us, he was gone. But it made the idea of having a warehouse cat sound like a cool idea, and as a result of that we decided to seek one out. Lo and behold, my boss' sister knew a gal who had kittens for free and suddenly we wound up with Cal, and he was our warehouse cat until I retired in 2023. However it came to be, Cal took the most liking to me, and so when I left the company, Cal came home with me permanently. During the week he'd come home with me on Wednesdays and weekends. But it also turned out that my wife got sent some pictures of some of the other kittens the lady had, and a couple of weeks after we got Cal, my wife picked out Grayson and we took him home. For all of the sadness in the moment when Butch ambled into our warehouse and then abruptly left us, perhaps he still had one thing left to do and he accomplished that mission. Find a good home for two kittens somewhere else who needed love and attention. Had Butch stayed with us, we probably never would have sought after Cal, and had Cal not come into the picture, we'd never have found Grayson either. In a way, however sad the moment was, perhaps it's just another example of a silver lining.

I am sure your cats are now happy house cats. Of course you miss those who are no more, sadly this is life. Cute cat in your picture.

Yeah. The one in the picture is Butch. But yes, I would have to say Grayson and Cal are quite happy cats indeed.

Often good things can come from a sad or bad situation.

Poor Butch but as you say at least two good things came out of the sadness.

I do think about a lot of things like that. The what ifs. What if I would have stayed in the navy, would I have met my current wife, or would I have had a totally different life? Had Butch stuck around, would we have Cal or Grayson? Probably not.

Cats have a way of pulling your heartstrings and he was the impetus for you saving two other cats.
