North Port Florida Police Department officers were dispatched on Wednesday October 8 when a child was seen running on a highway at night by himself after the child ran away from home behind his parents back despite their efforts to watch him closely. An auto that was driving on the same highway nearly hit the child when the police officer then proceeded to get ahold of the child who has special needs into his squad car and take the child home and reunite with his parents' home safe and sound. Kids like that can be a real effort for parents to raise, and usually with little help, and it was good the Police rescued this boy, before he was injured on the highway.

I suppose the parents of this poor child would have really been upset if the child had been hit or injured. Too many kids are raising themselves in this country today. The parents should be sited for not having an eye on the child.

That is what a lot of people are saying that kids grow up too fast these days.

I am in agreement. There's more to this story than we're seeing here.

I'm so glad the child wasn't injured. A special needs child needs even more supervision.

That is true that a child with special needs better supervision.

Kids play this "runaway" game all the time. Most of the time it's benign. But advancing to a highway? I'd say CPS might need to pay a visit to this home. Maybe nothing there, but a double-check might be in order.

The child came close to being hit by an auto according to the police officer who saw what happened.

The situation is difficult, I think it would be worth checking what is going on in this home, whether the child needs specialist help, but also whether the parents are taking proper care of the child.

I am in agreement with you that the situation is hard for the parents and the child.
