1989 - Pet Sematary Pet Sematary is a supernatural horror film directed by Mary Lambert and adapted from a novel of the same name by Stephen King. The Creed family, Louis (Dale Midhitt) and Rachel (Denise Crosby), their children Ellen "Ellie" (Blaze Berdahl) and Gage (Mike Hughes) and their cat Winston "Church" Churchill move to Ludlow, Maine. The house is on a busy road full of large trucks. Louis is going to be the local doctor. They make acquaintance with their neighbor across the street, Jud Crandall (Fred Gwynne). He takes them to the pet cemetery which is in the forest. During Thanksgiving when most of the family is away, Church gets hit and killed by a truck. Ellie will be devastated. Jud takes Louis on a long hike to an area beyond the pet cemetery which was a sacred burial ground for the Mi'kmaq. He instructs Louis to bury the cat there and to tell no one. The next day Church returns to the house...but he's not the same. Some time later Gage is killed by a truck on the same road.... "Sometime dead is better." I saw this movie for the first time last weekend. It was pretty good and not so scary that I couldn't watch it. Photo Credit: Pixabay

The book was a lot more scary than the movie, a bit deceiving after reading the book.

@LindaOHio - I like scary movies, but not to watch them if I am home alone.

Pet Cemetary always sticks out in my mind. It was so awful. Church's return always sticks out in my mind. I saw it years ago. I guess they've even made a remake of it. Ugh!

@LindaOHio ......Scenes from it still stay with me where others I have forgotten them completely. Having to do with a cat I guess.

My three older kids saw that movie and loved it. I watched it once and that was enough for me.

I liked the movie, but honestly, it was a bit of a dud for me. They did not adapt it well for the screen, I thought. The book was 100 times better than the movie. They ruined The Stand too, as well as the original It.

@LindaOHio I have read it three times. Twice on the original version and once on the extended version. It was that good. One other book I have read more than once was Peter Straub's Ghost Story. That is another fantastic one.

@porwest I'll have to read The Stand. It's 700 pages though and the print is so small! Thanks for Ghost Story recommendation.
