I have no idea what this succulent is called. These guys sit around innocently, rain or shine, and then suddenly throw out long shafts with a pink flower at the end. My sunflowers last for only a week or two. But these pink flowers stay with me for several weeks.
I thought this one had run its course the other evening. No flower. But there it was the next morning, looking as happy as ever. So this is one of those flowers that works hard during the day and then closes up shop at night. Do you have flowers like that where you live? Any idea what these things may be called?

Very nice. I don't have any succulents. I'm glad you're enjoying yours.

@TheHorse Succulents grow in the desert where it gets down to freezing at night. Not all of them can survive that cold but most can.

@DaddyEvil Could they live in the Midwest? I have never tried to grow them there.

Ok, now you have done it! I went looking for an idea of what it might be, and stumbled upon a website that sells tons of very lovely succulents. My first thought was ehceveria, but it might be an aeonium, or a sempervivum. All I know is that now I want to fill my virtual shopping cart full of mix and match succulents.
