2007 - 1408
1408 is a psychological horror film directed by Mikael Hofstrom and based on a short story by Stephen King.
Mike Enslin (John Cusack) is an author who writes books about haunted venues but doesn't believe in ghosts. He receives an anonymous postcard showing a hotel on Lexington Avenue in New York City called The Dolphin. The message reads "Don't enter 1408". Viewing this as a challenge, Enslin goes to The Dolphin and requests Room 1408. Hotel manager, Gerald Olin (Samuel L. Jackson), explains that in the past 95 years no one has lasted more than an hour in that room and that there have been 56 deaths there. Enslin threatens legal action; and Olin finally relents and gives him the key.
In the room the clock radio begins to play The Carpenters "We've Only Just Begun"; and the digital display starts a countdown from 60.00. Mike sees ghosts of the room's past victims along with some other visions. He attempts to leave the room; but the key breaks off in the lock and the doorknob comes off....
I found this movie to be very tense as I kept waiting for things to happen. I think it makes a good Halloween movie to watch.

I have not seen this, but now I REALLY want to. I am trying to remember if I have read the story, although I suspect I have, because I have read (to my knowledge) every short story collection King has ever put out. This looks and sounds good.

Very tense. You keep waiting for something else to happen.

@porwest The ending is pretty good. There were actually 3 proposed endings to the movie...you can read about them on Wikipedia. I watched it just recently; but my DVR didn't record the whole thing; I wanted to watch it again before I reviewed it because it had been so long. I have it on record again toward the end of this month.

By the way, I thought I'd just let you know that I did finally get to see this movie last night after some convincing of the wife. I would give it a 3 out of 5 stars. It was a bit weird, but it did seem to mostly follow the story, and I didn't think it was that bad at all.
Of course, I was always a fan of a show called Monsters and especially, Tales from the Darkside, and of course both Creepshow 1 and 2 were things I enjoyed, so I enjoy this kind of horror.
The ending did leave me a bit confused. Was he still in the room and his wife was now in it with him, as was the room's plan? Or was it just confirmation he really experienced the things he had while there? Because of course, there was the underlying thought based on an earlier scene, that there was really only one way to check out and he hadn't done that.
Either way. All in all a good watch. Thanks for recommending it to me.

This is what it says in Wikipedia: "This is the default ending of the theatrical release and its theatrical release DVD.
Mike is rescued from the room by firefighters and he reconciles with Lily, though she is skeptical of his experience. She finds a box of Mike's possessions that were rescued from 1408 and Mike takes the damaged mini-cassette recorder from it, saying: "Sometimes you can't get rid of bad memories. You've just got to live with them." Mike briefly tampers with the recorder, making it work again. Suddenly, they both hear Katie's voice coming from it, confirming Mike's account. "

It's not the best movie that I've seen; but it's also not the worst.

This one sounds interesting and quite scary too. Makes a good watch for Halloween. I will enjoy it with friends and family. I don't watch horror movies alone

@LindaOHio Even during daytime, I am not brave enough to watch them on my own
. I am not scared of ghosts or paranormal events as such , but watching something scary leaves some impact for few days.

I found this one to be very tense too. I really like John Cusack's sister. I try to watch anything she is in.

Let’s go back to Gremlins.
I hadn’t even heard of this one, let alone seen it. But how bad can a movie with a Carpenters song be???
