They delivered my new internet equipment today so I’m getting a late start. That’s given you some time to rest up for this one, ‘cause you’re going to need your energy for this one! All of the other songs have been hits (well…released as singles), but this was off a very popular album so I don’t feel too bad using it. Let’s kick off the top ten with a bang.
#10: Your Sister Can’t Twist (But She Can Rock and Roll) - Elton John
This one’s just a little more upbeat that last month’s song, wouldn’t you say?
Rebel? You might want to hide Tuffy before you play this one!
The reason I used this one instead of a hit is actually because of a hit. This song’s position on the album — side four, song one (not that I ever owned the album or anything
) — is right before a big hit, “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting.” And most people would agree that “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting” is a pretty rocking, get-up-and-move song.
But if you listen to that side of the album, with this hot number kicking it off, “Saturday Night’s Alright…” feels lethargic in comparison!
This also happens to be one of Elton’s shorter songs, clocking in at 2:40. A true rug burner from one of the classic albums in rock history.
Your Sister Can’t Twist (But She Can Rock and Roll)
Written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin
Recorded by Elton John
From Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, 1973
Song used last month: “Sad Songs (Say So Much)”

Yeah, this is a smoker. I was going to use "Saturday Night's Alright..." but I realized this is a much faster song.
