Well, what we suspected is now official. Mother-in-Law has Alzheimer's Dementia, in moderate severity. She also has depression and anxiety. Mother-in-law didn't get upset when she heard the news. She just can't grasp it. She doesn't understand that anything's different about her. She thinks she's fine. It will progress fast and at some point she'll need to be in Memory Care, maybe even a couple of months from now, but for right now we've got safeguards in place for her and she can continue to live in her apartment. For now. Things might change daily. Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts and well-wishes. We're having a "family meeting" via conference call tonight with the other son and his wife to fill them in and develop a plan.

Just don't be so quick to count her out just yet. Sure, it does affect the ability to express one self and do day to day living, and yes, you need to be careful. But, despite her newly diagnosed condition, include her in any plans, even if you don't think she understand or will forget. The worst thing you can do, is isolate her and start treating her differently. If medication is an option to slow the progression. Ask her, and respect her answer.

I hate to hear it, but I’m also glad you know and can plan now. Hopefully, the brother will cooperate with what is best for her.

At least you know now what you're working with. I hope when she does need Memory Care that it's a smooth transition. Prayers.

@looeyville Horrible to hear but at least now you can make plans for her future. Not a nice situation to be in for any of you. Been there.

The main thing is to try to keep her safe, which will probably get harder and harder to do. I hope the family pow-wow goes well.
