1982 - The Thing The Thing is a science fiction horror film directed by John Carpenter and based on a novella by John W. Campbell called Who Goes There. The Thing is a remake of the 1951 classic The Thing from Another World. An alien that can duplicate other life forms invades a polar research station in Antarctica. The residents of the research station begin to suspect that each other may have been taken over by the alien force. When one is discovered, they burn it with a flame thrower. The movie stars Kurt Russell as R. J. Mac Ready, A. Wilford Brimley as Blair and Richard Masur as Clark. Critics praised the special effects but criticized their visual repulsiveness. When the film was released to video and TV it developed a cult following; and it was reappraised as "one of the best science fiction and horror films ever made". Quite honestly, I prefer the original 1951 classic film The Thing from Another World. I liked the story line better; and there wasn't the gore that the 1982 film has. Photo Credit: Pixabay

This was a tense film. The 80s had a lot of gory films.

Absolutely a movie that ranked high on my list. Haven't see this in decades and might need to put it on my radar. As for the original, I am sure I have never seen it.

@LindaOHio Maybe I have seen it, but it doesn't even remotely ring a bell.

Wilford Brimley is a national treasure, but I don’t think I could take the gore.

I have seen that a few times but maybe not the while I seem to lose interest half way through.

I also liked more the original 1951 classic, but The Thing is also a good movie.

Yeah, they can’t remake a film without buckets of blood. Compare the 1930s Scarface to the Pacino one, for instance. And, of course, I haven’t seen this one.

I don't believe I saw this one either....but I don't know that I would like this one. Not much for alien movies - except for maybe Paul but that is a comedy.
