Piper Irwin who is an eight year old girl who attends Miami Elementary School in Clinton Township went to take a sip from her water bottle earlier this month when she began to choke when the small cap ended winding up in the back of her throat when she began to drink from the bottle. Dr. Katie Shellabarger who is the principal of the school took action and expertise on using the Heimlich Manuever on Piper's throat to remove the object from her throat. Piper and Katie have become close friends since the incident where Katie saved Piper likely passing away from the small object getting into her throat. Link is msn.com/en-us/video/pe...

I never thought about how dangerous those little kids are for even school age children.

This type of bottle is dangerous for young people not aware enough to remove the cap properly first. She must have wanted a drink in a hurry, and it was good the principle knew what to do, and saved her from possibly dying. I did something like this when I was a kid too, as I went into my mother's room, and got one of her perfume bottles, put it up to my nose, and took a big sniff of it, and the small rubber stoper still in it, got breathed up into my nostril, blocking it, and necessitating me going to the doctor to get it removed too.

Every time I hear a story like this, I am always curious what possesses anyone to put a bottle cap in their mouth? Of course, kids will do strange things. Still...

That's quite a mishap. Good friendships come out of such situations.

That is what I have noticed that friendships are created when a person saves the life of another person.

I am in agreement with you that the principal saved the life of a student due to her knowledge of using the Heimlich maneuver.
