Is our lives heading in a melt down??

Hello every 1, I've been listening to the news since the shutdown & it seems like things are going off the wall where the govt is against the wall with food supplies. I also hear that health ins has went totally insane, price's are rising & people on fixed income is at stake of help of any kind, in other words we're at a economy melt down. I'm in the same boat but I have learned how to stock up on my meds & our food supplies over the yrs & since I have been out of the hosp 3 yrs ago I have so far been a head of the game that others are facing right now. I feel really bad about those that are stuck in the situation they're in & if there was a way I could help I'd be glad to but some just don't have the means to stock up like others & most don't have the outside friends & family help either. It really sucks to be in a situation where you can't get the help you need & I know how that feels cause we are there ourselves, but we think ahead of the hard times to get the supplies we need, it may cost us in the long run but we're not going to wait till the last min to be ready for such stuff. You can do your research on how all this impacts your survival on food meds & your income & how to get ahead of the game if you think hard enough & do what needs to be done, & that's do take chances where ever you can. I took chances that got us where we needed to be now & that was to hold off on some of my meds to build them up, now I have enough that will last me awhile, like my insulin both long & fast acting, I held off from taking some of my MAIN meds a few weeks so I built them up like my heart & blood pressure meds now I have a stock up of them, I have enough that I don't have to worry about running out, I get a 3 mon supply & that's a help as well. We have a FEW credit cards that we use & we put JUST enough on them where we can pay them off in 3 mons & when we have at least 2 of them paid off we have enough credit to buy what food we need to last us a while, we freeze 10-12 gals of milk 12 loves of bread we buy 15 lbs of Hamburger meat & put it in separate freezer containers, we buy plenty of chicken & beef that we do the same with to last us like 3-6 mons. I know a lot of people don't have the $ or means to do such stuff but if you want to stay ahead of these govt crash's that SEEM to happen MORE than we need it's in your & MY BEST INTEREST to try to do the best you can the best way you know how cause the govt is ONLY working for themselves & not for us anymore.

Like you, I ha saved enough that I will survive these difficult times. But we have to be "proactive." Many Americans were deceived by false promises in 2024, and are now paying the price. We must VOTE in 2026, and do what we can to help others (and ourselves) in the meantime.

I totally agree, but only those that want's to learn will do what needs to be done to get the help they need to survive.

@TheHorse what do you think about this Tuesday's New Jersey and Virginia Governor's races? I read that if one or both of the Democrats candidates win, it will be a blow to Trump and the MAGA movement. What do you think will happen?

That's what they want us to believe. Of course, it's more smoke and mirrors. People will not starve and insurance rates have nothing to do with the shutdown. They have been astronomically going up since the passage of the ACA. As for dealing with things I can't necessarily control, I abide by a simple Limbaugh rule. Create your own economy.

@porwest no, that's just common sense, something that most have no idea what that is.

not every 1 are the same & know how to do what needs to be done & most of us have NO CLUE what to believe & what not to believe with the govt, they are constantly keeping people on edge.

We buy extra of everything every time we go to the store. We have enough food to last for six months so we are ok right now.

I am sure that for many people these are very hard times. Not everyone has enough money to buy extra food. I hope they have enough now not to get hungry.

@2ndchances24 - You are so right, politicians should remember that revolutions started because people were hungry.

I hope that as well, cause there's nothing more horrifying than being hungry & without the help you need.

Right now all I am looking forward to is have a normal next Saturday and being able to order my groceries and everything going smoothly so my anxiety does not get out of control.

I still think the courts will force Trump to pay out SNAP benefits. I am doing OK. I can live off SS and pension payments. I have a rainy day fund; but I only use that in cases of a large project or emergency. I'm glad you plan for the future.

@2ndchances24 My goal is not to touch my retirement fund unless it's for a big project or emergency. So far it's working out OK. I hope things go well for you.

that's how we're living, off our ss pymts & with the bills we have it gets a little Leary on if we have enough to pay most of them even though we do pay 6 mons advance on most of them but when that 6 mons arrives it gets a little touchy on if we can repay it again.

I grew up at times without a lot. There were not government food programs like now and we never had insurance. I always have food stocked up. Simple foods but you can make a lot with them.

Either way if they doing us dirty or we really in trouble. Just the thought is bad and if people putting that out there, protect yourself the best you can. Why I never judge anyone. Our leaders are not very good in this time.

Also, flights in the US are being delayed or cancelled because of the lack of Air Traffic Controllers not being paid due to the shutdown. Can you believe Air Traffic Controllers are not being paid?

I'm glad you made it through those times when you did with less meds so that you would have enough for hard times. Take care.
