Unsummering

Okay, that's not a word. I am fully aware of that. But it's pretty much what we will be doing today if all goes well and the weather holds out. It's drizzling a bit at the moment, so we will see. But it's supposed to be a rather good day, so we plan to get outside a little later on and start putting away the "summer stuff" in and about the yard. It is a task that always comes with a bit of disappointment for me. I am a fan of summer, but not much the other seasons, except maybe spring. The other seasons are a bit depressing to me. Eventually I plan for us to become snowbirds and trek out to Florida after Thanksgiving and stay there until about April or May. It's a plan that's a bit far off yet, but in the works. We'd still have to do some "unsummering" though.

We set back our clocks the past Sunday, I would like so much that they change once and forever.

It's been something trying to be passed forever. Who knows if we'll ever get it done. I say just set the clocks forward in the spring and leave them there. DST really serves no purpose.

@porwest - This was the idea and it's at least the 5th year that the EU leaders say this year we set the clocks forward in the spring and they will stay. DST serve no purpose it's a cost and it's an annoyance to people.

@LadyDuck Plus, one wonders about all the electricity that could be saved since we could turn lights on later instead of sooner. It's been up for debate for a long time and I just wish they'd get rid of it.

It is below freezing here this morning and we've had frost several days this week. I've already put away yard stuff into the garage except for the old storm windows the construction crew leaned up against the outside wall of the garage. If I had felt better, I would have taken those to an aluminum recycling place here in town along with all the trash bags full of crushed aluminum cans we've got stored in the garage. On some warmish day coming up, we need to go out and cut down the walnut trees that sprouted this summer... I definitely don't want anymore of those growing on our property. They make too much of a mess...

@porwest I'll have to ask my brother if he can come over with his truck to take all our cans in. I'd hate to make several trips with our car to get the cans and the old storm windows there.

@DaddyEvil Yeah, without the truck, I couldn't even imagine how we'd do it. We crush ours and then fill 30 gallon garbage cans and when we get 6 or 7 full, we take them in. They equal about 15 pounds each, and I can fit 6 comfortably in the truck bed, and can put one extra in the cab, as well as a small tote full if we had some "overflow."

We just took our cans in a few weeks ago. I had over 100 pounds. I need to mulch some leaves though, badly.

Changing the clocks back is always depressing for me. I hate that it gets dark so early.

I am right there with you. Saying goodbye to summer, for me, is not a good time. I just hate it. But of course, can't get away from it (for now). Incidentally, we never got to the outside stuff as we had an earlier plan that pretty much took up our time. Maybe next weekend.
