She'd Need New Glasses for Christmas

I remember when I was in the third grade, and at the time, I still firmly believed that Santa Claus was a real person who slid down the chimney with a bag full of toys and reindeer patiently waiting on the roof. You weren't going to tell me otherwise, and that was that. There was a heated argument on the playground with a girl who insisted I was wrong, and we went back and forth for some time before I'd had enough of her nonsense and reached out and took her glasses from her face, threw them on the ground, and stomped them to pieces with my foot. Of course, this landed me in the principal's office, which ended with a three-day suspension, and a conference with my parents that cost them a bit to replace the girl's stomped eyewear. Needless to say, I was quickly educated on who Santa really was, and when I got home, he entered my room with less jolly than I had ever imagined, and let me tell you... Santa's got one hell of a swing, and Christmas was never the same afterwards.

Good hard swats to the tush, I take it? One of my older brothers met the Santa at out house when he stomped on a lunchbox belonging to our next-door neighbor's little girl. (He was 2 years older than me and she was 4 years younger than me.) I don't know what they argued about but mom let my brother know that wasn't acceptable behavior. Mom used a leather belt on my brother... She usually used peach switches on us... She must have been mad to use the leather belt!

@porwest It's too bad people are too scared to us effective punishments like that on kids nowadays. I bet there would be a lot more respect shown to others than there is now.

@DaddyEvil One of the reasons society is the way it is now, weak and unruly, spoiled and full of temper tantrums is because we did away with corporal punishment. When there are no consequences for anything, it is not all that surprising that someone loses it at Burger King when something goes wrong with their burger.

You could say that, and of course, you would be correct. lol. As for objects, my mom had a Fuller Brush that looked like it was ivory. It was quite effective. And truth be told, my dad actually put a guitar over my head once. Not a joke. That E11 chord has forever stuck in my head, and I will never forget it. lol

We did not have "Santa", but kids in Italy believed that Baby Jesus delivered the gifts helped by the angels. As soon as I went to kindergarten the nuns told us, I was only 4 and I was upset. My brother believed for years and my parents told me to tell him nothing. One day I thought that enough was enough and he would have been bullied in school and I told him. He cried for hours.

@porwest - I told to my brother that he was really dumb to still believe that story.

@LadyDuck Some people hold onto fantasy longer than others. Maybe reality is just a really scary thing to them. lol

Oh boy...what a tale. I think I was about that age, or maybe a bit younger when I came to the conclusion Claus wasn't real. I remember thinking how could Santa be at the Boston Store, Masons and a Christmas party all at the same time??? (Lightbulb) he must not be real!! It came like a bolt out of the blue.

Once conscious thought starts to develop, you definitely have more valid questions in life. lol

@kaylachan I know, right? One where people were held accountable for their actions and there were consequences? So foreign anymore.

Makes for a great story. Guess you learned your lesson and didn’t do something like this ever again…

Oh wow you had a nasty temper. I did as well though. I can’t imagine the fury I would feel if another kid did that to my daughter’s glasses. She would be to blind to do anything for a few weeks while waiting for new glasses to be made for her. I always worry something will happen to hers.

I was quite known for my temper when I was younger. At some point I did learn to control it. But boy, did it get me into a lot of trouble. lol
