I think I will change my guitar strings today.

How often should a guitar player change their guitar strings? There is no definitive answer to that question "Every other month" would be my response if I did not feel like talking. But the real answer involves things like how often you play, are the strings you have on there staying in tune, how bright do you like your guitar to sound, etc. And, of course, never change your strings right before a gig or recording session. They take a day or two to stretch out and stay in tune. In the case of my Collings OM-1, my "gigging guitar, "it is has been several months. My bass strings are sounding dull and thuddy though my treble strings sound delightfully mellow. I have the day off from work today, so it is a good day to change my guitar strings. I will have to decide between Elixir and Martin lightly coated strings. I will use Mediums, as the "action" (distance from fingerboard to strings) has been set quite low on my Collings guitar. Do you ever have to answer questions to which the answer is not simple? Sigh.

I did all the time when I was still selling phones and recommending phone companies. I hope changing strings is enjoyable, pony.

How long did it take to "get the answer out"?

@TheHorse It always depended on who was asking. If it was an older adult that wouldn't understand what I was talking about, I gave them an abbreviated answer and they usually left without asking more questions. If it was one of the other associates, I gave them the real answer so they could answer customer questions without guessing the answers.

I find most questions are rarely streight forward. Having to explain something is an art some people get used to.

@TheHorse And, I'm a self-proclaimed tech nerd. I have gotten a bit better at explaining medicine to George though.

If the treble strings sound good, will you still change them?

I hope changing strings improves the tone. I was a manager for quite a few years and answered all kinds of questions.

Definitely a preference thing. I simply change my strings as needed, and that need depends on a number of things.

I never thought about how often guitar strings had to be changed. I only thought about how often pianos had to be tuned.

I have all the time questions that do not have a simple answer. Most of the time it depends on many different factors.

Do guitar strings have different strengths? With clarinets, reeds come in different strengths.
