Butternaise

So, who likes grilled cheese sandwiches? I like one with Muenster cheese, and I always butter the bread, of course, before I toast it. Apparently, other people use mayonnaise. Well, now you don’t have to choose! Introducing Butternaise from companies Tillamook and Kewpie, a hybrid butter and mayonnaise condiment. You can buy it online starting November 6th. Gross. Any hybrid products you would like to see? Not me!

I mix up my own ketchup and mayo for dipping fries and for putting on burgers.

I don’t know if they still sell it, but a couple years ago Heinz came out with Mayochup for people who loved Mayo and ketchup together. It always amazes me what tickles some people’s taste buds.

@sallypup I never would have thought of that. That’s inventive.

@AmbiePam I sub guacamole for mayo sometimes when I make a grilled cheese sandwich.

I love mayo and do think it's a must for most sandwiches . . . but I hadn't thought to put it on grilled cheese. If one wanted both butter and mayo, I can't think why on earth anyone would need the convenience of Butternaise . . . I mean is it that hard to put on butter and mayo ?

@AmbiePam I don't know if it still exists, but remember Goober (I think) .. . the purple jar of peanut butter and jelly? Even back then I couldn't understand why that existed .

No thank you, I do not have grilled cheese too often and when I do I have a Snoopy girlled cheese maker and just use butter.

I love grilled cheese especially with Swiss but wouldn't want a hybrid butternaise. Just the thought of that combo sounds nasty. I always used to use butter for my bread (and still do occasionally) but a friend told me about mayo and I tried it and liked it. Either or is fine with me but not a combo.

I’ll have to try Mayo sometime to compare.

@AmbiePam it doesn't really taste different but it spreads easier on the bread

That combo surprises me. I thought Tillamook would only deal with less processed food. Mayo cancels out butter when spread.

I would probably try it if it wasn't too expensive. I like butter but use mayo as of late as it so much easier to spread

I honestly didn’t know people used mayonnaise to toast a grilled cheese until I read this story.

!?!? My Mom and I always used butter. "Butternaise" sounds like it came from the people who made square watermelons....

Muenster cheese is the best for grilled cheeses! My son makes a good grilled cheese, he puts 3to 4 slices and butters up the toast

I thought so too. Right up there with Heinz’s Mayochup, the combo of Mayo and ketchup.

I've never heard of Butternaise. I want to try a grilled cheese now that I'm eating vegan cheese. It should be good.

I don't think I want to try it. I know some people use both on the same sandwich, but I am not going to. I love grilled cheese, but I don't make them very often. I prefer them with either cheddar or Swiss, but these days I settle for what we have on hand.

Yes, I know what you mean. Except, I can’t use American cheese. It makes me sick. I also think it’s a crime against humanity.

@AmbiePam American cheese affects me the same way. Not sure why, but it does. I would rather eat one tiny cube of ''real'' cheese than endless slices of the American stuff. It's just not good in any way, shape, or form.

I put butter on the bread but in the outer part. The inner part has the melting cheese. I love mayo but not here.

I never think to fry anything in mayo, it's always butter or canola oil. I don't think mixing mayo and butter sounds very good.
