Why I turned vegan....

Not only because of lactose intolerance...
But also because of this...
I really need to do something about it...I can feel it in my blood.....its like this is the purpose of my life....or one of the purposes of my life...
I do not expect others to change...especially immediately...as it would lead to slaughter of all cows and their calves with immediate effect...after all which animal farmer would want a non remunerative animal on their hands.
I also feel it is necessary too....in some situations....like a person being ill, or requiring energy to fight some war....
So ...no I am not judging anyone here....all I am asking is..please understand me....been crying with this video...
The young ones ready for slaughter ....hoping to get a drop of milk from the fingers of human being....
And the cow chasing her calf....even with her milk.....separation must hurt....the least, we could have let the calves drink milk....before their last journey...
Now I need some suggestions based on which the calves and old cows and old buffaloes become invaluable to our economies....and we feel inclined to save them.

We Indians are basically vegetarians. So for me to shift to veganism is far more easier than those who have followed a meat diet throughout their lives. Any shift could even lead to medical issues I feel. So its fine what you want to eat. Just that little ones deserve a fair chance to live another day with their bellies filled, and the mothers need to have that much outlet for their milk and love.

@vandana7 That's easy... Just convince people that meat doesn't taste delicious and that animals weren't put on the Earth for us to eat.

I have never relished non veg. I have had to swallow it down with a glass of water because my father used to scare me. My homeopath doctor told him the reason for me being sickly...when the food is not being masticated....it was not helping, and water was making me feel full, so I was not eating anything literally. That got me my freedom, and my health. But this.....mother being separated from her calves....never thought of it like that. Nor the poor young ones waiting to be slaughtered sucking the fingers as if it would give them some milk ....my heart is crying Shiva...I feel we need to do something to revert to our ancient ways. Logic says...make their poop more valuable....but how...I am not sure.

The calf should be allowed to feed on its mother's milk first. The extra can be taken by the human beings. Old cows and buffaloes cannot be left to die on the streets and so the idea of Goshala.

Our ancient systems were so good Anindita.... we kept them in our homes. We loved them. We understood their needs. Now when everything is so distant, we don't even realize how badly they are being treated.
Did you know that cows after their period of fertility ...are left on streets....while buffaloes are slaughtered.....the cows hungry and thirsty enter farms, where farmers beat them, or throw acid at them....or blind them, such that they meet with accidents...yes...that is us....ungrateful human beings.
The milk....in olden days, we let the calf drink at least one...now machines extract the entire milk....calf runs to the udder...trying to get at least a drop. Worst part...separating them from their calves....we get them impregnated for improved output.....that is kinda rape isn't it?
That.....Anindita is the truth...
With Yogi giving cows to every poor woman, you bet more cows face same fate...after all which of those poor women will be able to feed those cows after 7 years? And cows live well around 12 to 15 years....of misery. I am very uncomfortable at the thought.

Mankind has used to hunt animals for food and clothing, then mankind found other materials to make clothing with and all mankind wanted after that is food. The problem with domestication of cows, bison, elk and other large animals is that men no longer have a purpose. It used to be they would hunt with simple tools to bring home the meat and that meant that they could not over produce those animals. As for milk, it is most likely a commodity we never should have gotten in the first place, but then mankind has always tried to outsmart their gods.

I don't like the slaughter of animals; but I still eat meat. I do want the animals to be kept in free-roaming circumstances and their demise to be handled humanely. I applaud you for your choice. I wish I had an answer for you, dear friend.
