Instrumentally Yours: Pick Up the Pieces

It’s another one of those instrumentals that hit #1 on the Billboard pop chart. It’s one that’ll have you dancing! It’s one that @porwest will either love or smash to pieces!
Here we go with today’s song.
Pick Up the Pieces - Average White Band
Let’s start with the name. Bonnie Bramlett, the “Bonnie” of Delaney and Bonnie, heard the band rehearsing and said they were “too much for the average white man.” Of course, they had a black drummer, so it wasn’t the average all-white band.
Oh, and they were Scottish. To paraphrase Talking Heads (whose frontman, David Byrne, was also born in Scotland), this ain’t no party, this ain’t no American disco band, that ain’t no foolin’ around!
AWB, as they were known (since “Average White Band” was a lot to spit out), is remembered for two big hits in America: “Cut the Cake,” and this one. Although saxophonist Malcolm Duncan thought that “a funk instrumental played by Scotsmen” would be a terrible choice as a single, the world definitely proved him wrong.
One of those shining moments that only the mid-70s could have given us.
Pick Up the Pieces
Written by Roger Ball, Hamish Stuart, and AWB
Recorded by the Average White Band

@FourWalls They were fun. And I did like their name. And their "logo."

Even with a black drummer, that's not a name that would fly now.
No, I don't recognize the name or the music.2 people like this

Tell me about it.
Nor would Wild Cherry's song "Play That Funky Music" ("play that funky music, white boy, play that funky music right!")

My preferred pieces to pick up come from Poco’s first album, Pickin’ Up the Pieces.

@FourWalls For sure, I love when a good tune brings back a warm memory, even grateful for the sad songs

That's it. If you get a package delivered to your door around Christmas this year on which a label is affixed that reads, "Merry Christmas, lady, from Porwest," don't be surprised if it is ticking and it isn't a clock.
Are you TRYING to make me lose it over here? Look, I was a huge fan of CHiPs and 70's "theatrical" music, and this would certainly qualify.
How could I NOT like it? My panties are clearly all up in a bunch over this assault of INSTRUMENTALS I CAN actually listen to and have been forced to now rethink EVERYTHING about my life.
And YES. I DID say panties, because I'm so confused I don't even know what to put on anymore. Fruit of the Loom or Divine Pleasures?
Enjoy your present, and let's just say...we'll just pick up the pieces later, because I can assure you it ISN'T, in fact, a clock.
This is actually bordering on torture in a way I NEVER anticipated to endure from this series.

I’ll leave it for the porch pirates.

Settle down, it’s not like I’m making you realize that you love country music!!!
