Pretty in Pink - and offset as well

On our way to the Country Music Muster, we passed this ‘pretty in pink’ tractor which had ‘Lucinda’ painted on the side. However, I’ve chosen this photo of the same tractor taken from the front so you can see more clearly how it is offset. I’d never seen one like this before. I did some research and it seems that from 1947 to 1979, a small tractor was manufactured by International Harvester in Louisville, Kentucky, under the names of Farmall or International Cub. This was marketed to small-acreage farmers and meant to replace horse- and/or mule power. The tractor was offset to the left with the driver’s seat and steering wheel were on the right, a concept known as ‘CultiVision’. You might be able to see the long rod connecting the steering wheel to the front wheels. There is a mural on the tank behind showing everlastings. There was another tank with murals on the other side but it deserves a separate post.

@judyev Odd, but practical. The tractor, not you.

It does look really strange from the front.

@JudyEv I agree, it's odd from the front.

I still don’t understand why they designed it like that . I love that someone painted it pink. Never saw one painted that color before.

It does give the driver a better view of what's up ahead.

Wow! Hot pink looks funny on a tractor! I've seen tractors with off-set wheels like that before but they don't look safe to me. I know dad refused a tractor somebody tried to sell him because the front wheels were set close together... He didn't consider that type of off-set to be safe, either.

I don't like the ones with the front wheels close together either.

It's certainly 'pink', isn't it?

I wonder if that tractor was repainted... most tractors are either red or green.

It's been repainted for sure.

I remember the old International Harvester plant on Crittenden Drive here in town! It closed down while I was stationed in Hawaii. I hadn't ever seen an offset tractor setup like that, honestly....not that I've seen all that many tractors.

I was wondering if a farmer had been having fun but thought I'd better check and blow me down! It's for real.

That is a bit odd isn't it, you would think it would make it unbalanced, but it does give a better view forward.

It certainly looks unbalanced. I don't know if there was some compensatory weight on the 'light' side.
