I just received a ton of cat food

The woman who now lives directly across from me up here moved in with a 14 or 15 year old orange tabby named Oliver. I of course love cats and have my own orange tabby, Charlie. It has been at least 3 years and she and I don't cross paths often due to our schedules but I always ask about the cat whenever I see her. Her live-in boyfriend (cop) was very rude to me when he first started visiting and then moved in but he has become more friendly over time when he has seen that I am a much better neighbor than the other 2 tenant families here. He had COVID and I left him soup. He helped me take down a dresser to the dumpster and I baked him lemon pound cake. He recently did something in the past couple of months and I honestly can't even remember what. **NO NOW I REMEMBER** He was going to work at 6:30am in the morning and saw me trying to get the actual key out of the key fob since my car wouldn't start. He did it for me. I baked him banana bread to thank him. In any case the relationship with him has warmed while Smokey McSmokerson next to him hides from me. The doorbell rang a little while ago and I was like "wut?" I wasn't expecting any deliveries and my friends and family just knock on the door. I opened it up and it was my cop neighbor. He said that Oliver had finally passed at almost 19 years (!!!) and asked if I wanted the cat food that they had. I was like "sure!" I just received 3 7-pound bags of dry cat food (Hill's and Royal Canin) and several small cans of wet food. I'm not a huge fan of those brands but at least they weren't Friskies or Purina. 1 of them is for senior cats and my oldest one is 6. I don't care. They get wet food, supplements, and high-quality treats so they will be fine. Hey free is free so I'm not going to turn it down. If they don't do well on it then I'll donate the rest to a local animal shelter. And, of course, me being me I will have to bake something for them to thank them. I have almost-ripe bananas on hand and everything else I need for banana bread so that is what they are going to receive. Sleep well sweet Oliver. You bridged the gap over the landing.

Poor cat; I’m glad he was well loved. Just out of curiosity, why are Friskies and Purina poor choices The worst dog food I think there is Alpo. I don’t know about cat food. If you feed a dog Alpo you’re either poor, or don’t care enough about your dog.

They are the in the same class as Alpo when it comes to cat food. They contain "meat" meal (which can include expired beef that has been doused with kerosene and euthanized pets), by-products, corn and other grains, etc. Also BHA/BHT which is a preservative that can cause cancer and other issues. I feed my cats Nature's Variety Instinct Raw Boost dry food which is a high-protein and grain-free food. It is $46 for 10 pounds which is expensive but a bag lasts my 3 cats for over a month so I'm fine with that.

@NJChicaa Wow. I feed my dog Iams because the vet told me too, but maybe I should look into it more.

@NJChicaa I haven't researched cat foods in some time, but so many pet foods still have corn and unnecessary fillers, by-products, etc. I am glad you can use the cat food. It's more expensive to feed pets than it used to be.

That's a very long life for a cat. Sometimes relationships that don't start off so well become something better over time. I'm glad that's the case here.

Oliver is waiting for them at the Rainbow Bridge. That was kind of them to give you the food.
