A nifty ladder caught my eye

You might wonder what the photo is all about. I can’t help but get enthused by clever design and technology and so I just had to take a photo of the ladder that you can see leaning against the trade tent. It’s aluminium and collapses down to the small object seen at the foot of the extended one. You use your thumbs to push buttons on the side to collapse the ladder a little or a lot. There is no way you can pinch your fingers. It is very light and takes very little room. At full length, it is a bit over 3 metres (10 feet) but you can use it at any length. I was so wishing we needed a new ladder but unfortunately we don’t.

I wanted to buy one, we are now on first floor, that is not very high and I thought it's a good thing to have in case of fire. Well my husband as usual disagrees.

@JudyEv - I also have one in the garage, but in case of fire the garage is downstairs and we are at the second floor. Men way of reasoning, going down that stairs may be dangerous... I think escaping a fire is worth trying.

@LadyDuck Absolutely, if you had to escape a fire you would try pretty much anything! Even just a stout rope would be better than nothing.

That's a shame. We have two in the garage but they do take up a lot of room.

That is really interesting! It would be a lot more convenient to store than the ladders that just fold up.

@JudyEv Further than I'd want, honestly. I don't even climb up on chairs anymore. My sense of balance is shot.

It's just so clever. It's light as well and extends as far as most people would want.

That's a nice ladder. We bought little giant ladder. They work in a similar matter.

@JudyEv It does look like that folds shorter but would be thicker once all down too.

There is always more than one way to make things. We get stuck on one pathway sometimes.

I like the look of that ladder even as I'm thinking it looks lightweight and dangerous.

We pushed and pulled it and it did seem quite strong. The uprights are quite substantial for all their light weight.

I love that you got excited about the ladder. I get fascinated by little things that make our lives just a little bit easier too.

I sometimes rabbit on about something like this and people's eyes start to glaze over!

What I'm afraid of about the ladder is whether if it is hit by a strong wind it will be able to stand firmly.

I often hold ours steady if Vince has to go up it.

That's a cool ladder. I'm too scared to get on a ladder, so I wouldn't buy one, but I appreciate the technology!

We have two too but they're not as convenient as this. They're awkward to carry.

They take up so little room. Space is at a premium for us now but we already have two ladders.

I thought so. Designers just need to think outside the box sometimes.
