I was just checking on booking a room near sis's place at the Holiday Inn we liked so much last year. Almost 200 bucks! Friend paid last year, but doubt it was that much. Anyway, I am not paying it. There is another motel we have stayed at previously which is closer for half that, but they wanted payment up. front, when almost all chains will allow you to reserve a room with a credit card and pay when you get there. I do n't like that pay now policy, because who knows there could be a blizzard..and if my mom and dad don't come staying at the house would be OK. I just don't want to be stuffed in there if they come .sigh I will have to wait and see

Oh my! Where does she live? That's crazy high! There are rates like that and higher at Disney World but you get a lot of benefits with it there. Pay in advance? Sounds like a rip off to me, you need to pay in advance at Disney too, but I know they will not rip you off.

Hotels and motels always jack up the rates near holidays or other busy times

That’s a silly amount of money for a room, but I know it’s a normal price for a regular room. I was talking to a woman who is going to Oregon in the spring, and she told me they’ll be camping along the way because it is cheaper. I’d rather not go than camp at every stop. Plus, you never know who’s going to murder you in your sleep.

@snowy22315 I used to love the ID channel. I can think of about 12 cases of campers being murdered. No joke. Now, when you take into account how many people have lived and never had a single problem, it really is a small number. Because you’re right. Unfortunately, just those 12 are enough to freak me out. Plus, I’ll be real; I don’t do the outdoors.

@AmbiePam Some of those ID cases they were murdered by their own family members, or people they knew.A complete stranger murder is rare, but happens. The only time I felt unsafe camping was in a tornado of some sort.

Campgrounds are generally safe..especially those in National Parks or other supervised areas.Think about it how many times have you heard about campers murdered in their sleep?

$200 a night is nuts. Too bad about the payment up front policy for the other motel.

@snowy22315 I know people who used to stay in hotels that now try to plan trips so that they can get home in a day, or stay with a friend. I can understand that, for sure.

Yes, and like I said if m and d don't come, it would be OK staying at the house.

Paying up front could certainly be iffy. All sorts of things could get in the way of you being able to go.

Yes, not going to take especially since they could have snowy weather, but they don't tend to get too much there.
