An honor!

My bass student, Vivienne, is turning 15 in May or June of next year. In Mexican tradition, a big party is held for girls when they turn 15. I forget what it's called. On Friday, Vivienne's mother invited me to her daughter's "birthday bash." She said it would be "an honor" to have me there. To me, it's "an honor" to be invited. Vivienne is fun to teach. She is a big Metallica fan, and she and I spend a lot of time figuring out the bass lines to Metallica songs. Sometimes I "torture her" by making her learn the bass lines to Miles Davis and Fleetwood Mac songs. We have fun together. Do you enjoy it when people show appreciation for your "work"?

Congrats on the invite! I hope you enjoy the bash. I remember feeling embarassed in kindergarten when my teacher had me stand on a chair to be recognized because I was the only student who followed her directions properly (coloring in apples on a tree). Now, when people show appreciation for my work, I feel vindicated, because these are politicians and other town officials. I live in a USDA Section 515 Rural Rental (62+) Senior Housing complex and have been the victim of a smear campaign here for 3½ years. My bully keeps trying to push me down and has only succeeded in pulling me up.

@TheHorse My dog wanted to go out as I was responding earlier, so I may not have been too clear. My bully is a low-income resident. She's tried hard to smear my name, but politicians and other town officials appreciate me and what I do. My bully is actually losing..

Yes, I did. I am still friends with a lot of the people I helped with their phones. I'm sure you'll enjoy her birthday bash. I always enjoy Mexican friends and their parents. I like their culture and how they treat friends.

Mexicans tend to be really family-oriented. This girl is a blast to teach.

Something nice to look forward to next summer. This affair should be quite a celebration. Will she play something at her party? I think we all appreciate being appreciated.

@TheHorse .......I'm not a fan of it either. But, yes just having her perform would be quite a thrill.

I think she and her younger brother (a drummer) are going to play Metallica songs. I will enjoy it, even if I am not a Metallica fan.

The celebration is called quinceañera, the transition from childhood to womanhood. I am so glad that she invited you, it's an important celebration.
