Do you like chicken soup when you’re sick?

That seems to be the “cure all” and go-to when people get sick. I can’t do it. Especially because I don’t like chicken soup even when I’m well. I’m not sick, but I am on a course of antibiotics (not pneumonia this time) but for something else. Don’t be nosy. Instead, I’ve had this strange craving for popcorn with butter and a box of Raisinets. It goes against everything I believe in but that’s all I feel like eating. I think the antibiotics are messing with my stomach, because really nothing looks all that good lately. Except for the popcorn and chocolate raisins. Very strange. It’s this house that made me “sick” - sick enough to go to Urgent Care and get put on a round of antibiotics and let’s just say the exact strain of bacteria they found happens to be the exact strain found in well water. I don’t interact with the well water too much, but every now and then you have no choice. You can only do so much with bottled water. Anyway, 3 weeks and I’m away from this poisonous waste and back to city water. And I know city water isn’t super-great either, but it’s what I was raised on. So it’s ok in my book. Somehow I messed up with the antibiotics too. It was a 5-day course, 1 every 12 hours. Well, it’s now Day 7 and I still have 1 left. Either slept thru some doses, or I don’t know maybe counted the hours wrong. I don’t care, 1 left and I’m done with these jumbo horse pills. Do you get strange cravings when you’re sick? Or do you dive right into the chicken noodle soup. I can’t do it, my friends. Reminds me of hot urine with noodles, chicken, and carrots.

I like most soups at any time whether I'm sick or not. I hope the antibiotics have cured you by now.

Don't be nosy, huh? I'm pretty sure we're all thinking the same thing... You're pregnant. Chicken soup won't fix that.

@Orson_Kart Not that I've ever heard but you never can tell, right?

Don't let yourself crave pineapple because it can cause miscarriage if consumed in large quantities. Whatever the fetus's request, you must still take good care of it.

Hey! I’m sorry to hear you’ve been sick. Chicken soup seems to be a popular choice for many when they aren’t feeling well, especially with a cold or other virus. I don’t believe it has any magical properties to cure you any faster than time, but if it mentally makes you feel better, all the good. I was going to be nosy, but you told us anyway why you have been taking antibiotics. I can see exactly what the problem was: you weren’t drinking the well water, you were drinking the “unwell” water. They always tell you to complete the course of antibiotics, and that’s what you’ve done, even though it’s taken longer. Well done! Shame living in the country hasn’t suited you, but it sounds like you are looking forward to returning to the city to drink its over-chlorinated devils juice. I’ve not tried hot urine with noodles, chicken, and carrots, but like you, I think I’ll pass. When I had COVID, I lost all my sense of smell and taste. That was a difficult time, because I didn’t know what to eat. Even my favourite food (chocolate) tasted of nothing. A sad, sad time for me. Luckily, I survived and my smell and taste returned, so I enjoy food even more now.

Oh, yes, I go straight for the chicken soup. When I’m well, too. I’m sure that the soothing qualities of hot soup help the throat and the sinuses, but “they” say there is something that helps…probably a combination of getting some nutrition (people who “don’t feel like eating” will still have some soup) and the combination of ingredients (protein from the chicken, for instance).

Chicken broth (not soup) is what I have when ill as a way of taking enought liquid and salt. If you don´t like it, buy some probiotics to add to your loved food.

Yeah during fever, I can't literally digest anything save chicken soup!
