When will this end?

My mom got her latest gas bill and again both the previous and current readings are an estimate. I went to the garage to check the meter and the reading there was way lower than both readings. Don’t remember if it was the previous or the current one but if you subtract that from the reading on the meter the difference was a negative number in the 200s range. She is definitely way overcharged. I sent them a picture of the meter with the reading but I doubt anything will come from doing so. Last time I called the gas company I was told readings are estimate because they haven’t made adjustments yet. It can take up to six months for that to happen as many customers are having the same issue. Well, she’s been getting estimate readings for at least a year. What gives? Who wants to keep overpaying for gas? Certainly not her. I don’t know what to do anymore. Can’t just not pay the bill. I have to try calling them again and complaining. The account is on my name so I’m the one that has to deal with it.

I hate that they always charge me through estimate as well. But they have given you absolute fits with your mom’s bill!

There should be no reason to do estimate readings especially if they installed a new meter that can be read remotely.

They do the same to me, they bill an estimate according to the prior months usage which is terrible. I only found out when I was renovating my kitchen and living room, after a month of nobody being home my light bill was still over 250

I'd start paying them 'an estimate' then. Just kidding. It seems like something really needs to be done. Their estimates are to high and they need to get whatever adjustments they are talking about taken care of. I think it's past the complaining stage. I hope you can get something accomplished with them or an overseer or something. Maybe the city could tell you if there is an overseer that could look at your situation.

I wouldn’t mind paying an estimate if it was in my favor… Like if they estimated the meter reading too low.

@celticeagle Maybe I can try and ask for a manager or supervisor next time I call.

Again, what is the gas for? Are there other options so you don't need a gas bill?

@lovebuglena I know it'd cost a bit, (depending on how much your mom cooks), but you can always replace gas stoves with eletric ones. Heat might be the only thing.

Gas is for cooking, laundry, and heat. No other options.

You must be absolutely fed up with trying to sort this out. Good luck with it this time.

Call City Hall and ask them what could be done. Or just keep calling and complaining...ask to talk to a supervisor.
