I Think I Want To Learn How to Play Mahjong

I just learned that there were places here in my city where you can play Mahjong. They're "clubs" I guess. They offer lessons, for a fee, to teach you how to play. And then you pay to join a group to play for a session. A different group each time, depending on your skill level. I know absolutely nothing about the game, but think I might enjoy playing. Do you know how to play Mahjong? Is it hard to learn?

My aunt thought she would join a group and learn it. The game is intense and takes time to learn all the quirks. There were a gazillion superstitions she discovered she was expected to believe for the game, and to follow. Certain clothing to wear and not to wear, shoes the same, could not wear anything green whatsoever. Seating was meticulously planned with feng shui. Some of the rounds of the game are based on actual winds. You couldn't wear any clothing that was new or slightly new, it interfered with the energy of the game, etc. I heard all about it from her and took her to one of the games, did something else while she was playing. She tried but she did not like it. Way, way too many superstitions and rules for her taste.

similar to playing cards but what I don't understand are the symbols.

Good luck! It was boring after I started playing so I stopped.

From my experience there seems a lot of variations but I know those who play love it.

I play Mahjong on the computer. It's easy to learn; but I didn't know there was a special skill to it. You just take away matching tiles. If there's something else to it, I don't know it.

Never even heard of it. lol. As for games, in general, they just never really have been something that appealed to me. But I'd consider it a hobby or something to pass the time. For me, that's playing guitar and writing songs, or writing a blog, or researching stocks. Those are how I spend my time. I hope you can find it learnable and easy enough to understand.

I have no idea how to play it. Of course, I’ve heard of it, but I would have no idea how to even describe it.
