Happy. Thanksgiving, America! As we celebrate the holiday I’m here to celebrate more great instrumentals. I didn’t plan it this way, but this is certainly the most appropriately-titled song for Thanksgiving day.
Can’t have instrumental lists or pie without this one!
#4: Whipped Cream - Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass
Yeah, yeah, the album cover. Wonder how many guys had their heart broken when they discovered that most of that “whipped cream” was a white blanket…and the model was pregnant at the time of the photo shoot!!
I’ve mentioned this before when I’ve used a song off this album: it’s really a good album! I don’t know how many guys bought the album just for the cover, but it deserves to be played while they gawk.
This song was written by the great Allen Toussaint, who published it under his mother’s name. That happened a lot back then, either for publishing contract reasons, genuine love (hey, she got the royalties for this!), or maybe they didn’t think it was going to be good (sort of the “Alan Smithee” approach to songwriting: “this sucks, so I’ll copyright it under someone else’s name!”
). For whatever reason, we all know Toussaint wrote it, even if it doesn’t say so.
And oh, what a great song it is. Just like most of the album.
Whipped Cream
Written by Allen Toussaint (under the pseudonym Naomi Neville)
Recorded by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass
From Whipped Cream and Other Delights, 1965
Enjoy your pie!

I remember this album cover. It was considered to be quite scandelous for it's time! Now, it's considered very mild.
Have a good Thanksgiving, my friend.

Stay warm and safe!
Yes, back then people didn’t display as much, unless they were in a Playboy centerfold! Not anymore!

Too bad so sad.
Glad you enjoyed it, and I hope you’ve had a great Thanksgiving.

Hope you enjoyed it. Lots of good music on that album. I love the song “Peanuts” as well.

It’ll always be memorable to people of the 60s.

@NJChicaa it’s getting closer, my salamander (a line from a Paul McCartney song, and no, I have NO FREAKING CLUE what it means!).

I know they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. Not mine all the time, either, but I have enjoyed this month.

The only whipped cream I know is the edible kind and the best I liked from Herb was Rise,

That wasn’t even whipped cream on the album cover, it was shaving cream…whipped cream melted under the photo lights.
Hope you’re having a good Thanksgiving!

I have this album. I think Whipped Cream sounds like a game show theme.

The Dating Game used a lot of Herb Alpert music, so it probably WAS.
